Use the Notification and Quick Setting Panel on Samsung Galaxy S4

Notifications are alerts that there are activities within your phone that are noteworthy. These alerts appear on the status bar at the top of the screen in forms of notification icons. Usual activities shown on the status bar are the alerts on missed calls, new messages, application alerts, calendar events, device status and others. This Howiki will give you an overview of the Notification and Quick Setting panel and how to get more out of your phone by knowing about these.
Opening Notifications
Most notifications are represented by icons on the top of the status bar. However, your phone can only handle up to its screen size so some are displayed on the notification panel. These are the steps to view these notifications:
- 1From the top-most portion of your phone's touch screen, do a dragging gesture.
- 2This opens the notifications panel and shows you the list of notifications.
- 3Drag down to see more of the notifications.
- 4Tapping on a notifications will take you to the application that triggered it.
- 5Tap clear to clear all notifications.
- 6Drag a single notification to the left to remove it alone.
- 7Drag up the bar at the bottom of the screen to close the notifications panel.
Know About the Quick Setting Panel
The quick setting panel allows you to view your Samsung Galaxy S4's current settings. Tap on a quick setting panel icon will enable or disable the feature on your phone. This is the easier way of turning features versus the usual way of going to the settings. We will be discussing on how to open the quick setting panel, the icons on it and the functions of each icon.
Opening Quick Setting Panel
- 1From the top-most portion of your phone's touch screen, do a dragging gesture.

- 3This opens the quick setting panel at the upper part of the screen.
- 4A lit-up icon means it is activated while a grey one means it is turned off.You should be able to see the icons and their status.
- 5Drag to the left or to the right of the icons to see more quick setting panel icon.
- 6Activate or deactivate the functions represented by the icons by tapping on them.
Quick Setting Options
- 1Wi-Fi allows you to connect to the net or share files via Wi-Fi.Wi-Fi - Tapping on this icon will activate or deactivate the Wi-Fi feature of Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 2GPS allows you to be notified of your location.GPS - Tapping on this icon will activate or deactivate the GPS feature of Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 3You have an option for a complete mute or put a vibration on your device.Sound - Tapping on this icon will turn on or off the sound of your Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 4Auto-screen rotation automatically rotates your phone to the current phone position (portrait or landscape).Screen rotation - Tapping on this icon will activate or deactivate the auto-screen rotation feature of Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 5Bluetooth allows you to share files with other Bluetooth users.Bluetooth - Tapping on this icon will activate or deactivate the Bluetooth feature of Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 6Mobile data allows you to use the internet via network service provider.Mobile data - Tapping on this icon will activate or deactivate the data connectivity feature of Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 7To select what notifications you prefer to block, go to HOME MENU > APPLICATIONS > SETTINGS > MY DEVICE > BLOCKING MODEBlocking mode - Tapping on this icon will activate or deactivate the notification blocking feature of Samsung Galaxy S4.

- 16Driving mode allows you to safely use your phone while you are driving.Driving mode - Tapping on this icon will activate or deactivate the Driving mode feature of Samsung Galaxy S4.

Tips Tricks & Warnings
- You can rearrange the options on the notifications panel by opening the panel and tapping on File:notif2.JPG, then dragging it to another location
- Some of the features may use battery power. It is always wise to turn them on when not in use.
- Depending on your region and service provider available icons on your Quick setting panel may vary.
