Questions and Answers

Yes, I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy and I don't know how to load the music on my phone. How do I import music from my computer library?

How to establish a music library.

You can load music files on your Galaxy S4 by moving music files from your computer to your phone. To do that you need to do these:

I need help getting media player apps on my S4 to play songs that are stored on the SD card?

I have media (mp3 songs) saved to my SD card, but can't get any player apps (Google Play, Samsung Music) to find and play the songs. I can force them to play by finding the file through the my files app.

There a few possible reasons why your phone does not recognize the songs on your SD card but is able to play them when you manually browsing through them in file explorers. It could possible be a problem with the memory card, the music files, the installation location. Follow these procedures to fix the issue:

  • Reboot your Galaxy S4. If you have just loaded the songs to your micro-SD card, or you have just inserted your card, see to it that you restart your device for it to fully refresh. When your device restarts and you open your Music Player, it will scan for available music files on your phone and your memory card.
  • Make sure that your songs' file names ends with a supported file type. As mentioned on the introduction, Galaxy S4 supports multiple music file types. If your music file does not end with ".mp3" or any other supported file format, your Music Player may not recognize it as a music file and just skip on it when Music Player scans for songs.
  • Create a new folder in your SD card and name it "Media" put all music files on your SD card to that folder. Go to your Home screen by tapping on the Home button. From Home, tap on the Apps icon to get to the application list. From the list, open My Files. On My Files, tap on "All Files", then open "SD Memory card". You are now on your SD card. Tap on the the Menu key, to view available options. Tap on "Create folder" and enter the new folder name as "Media". Transfer the music files on your memory card into this folder.
  • Reformat your SD card. Before doing a reformat, transfer all of your SD card's files into your computer using the USB cable or a memory card reader. Once transferred, reformat your SD card using your phone by going to Home > Menu key > Settings > More > Storage > Format SD card > Tap on the "Format SD Card" button. Once format is complete, transfer the files back into your memory card and your music should now be detected.
