== Introduction ==
I would like to thank RepoNut for the awesome video on how to get a repo onto the street using a cut key. I organized it into a wiki for anyone with a hearing impairment, or for those who just prefer to read the steps. Hope you enjoy it. :)

We just did some skip locating on an account we have been looking for for about two weeks now on an ivory or cream color Mitsubishi Eclipse.  It is a 2004, and we had an address down in Spring-ville for it but it was not showing up there. == Steps ==
# So, we skip located some family members and actually located her brother's wife today.  We made contact with her.  The brother was gone but the wife was home.  So, it was the sister-in-law I was speaking to and I just asked if she knew the debtor.  She said "Yes".  I said, "Do you have an address where she is staying?"  She went into her address book and found a brand new address that we didn't have.  It is actually up here in Woodland Hills, a rich neighborhood we have come up here a couple of times to get some different repos for and we came up here to the given address that she gave us and I can see a cream colored Mitsubishi eclipse up in the driveway. So, what we are going to do now is we are going to do a ping locate on our device and then we'll get the vehicle tagged.[[Image:How_to_use_a_cut_key_to_quickly_get_a_repo_out_to_the_street~canvas41_473121.jpg|center]] 
# Make sure we've got a good battery on this thing before we place it. You always want to make sure you've got at least  fifty percent power when you place a GPS device. That way it buys you about a week or a week-and-a-half. You know full charge we can get about three weeks of continuous use if the vehicle just sits and the device doesn't do anything and we don't ping it a lot we can get over a month's worth of use out of these batteries. But in this case I am planning on them. And the camera system right now, just running around like I do everyday, running addresses and doing my skip locating and stuff it's just easier and more cost effective to either do it on the bike or in the Tahoe. And the weather is kind of cold today, it's actually 52 degrees outside right now. So, it's a little cold for the bike. #Plus, this gives me more of an official stance when I am out talking to people and I am also doing some process serving. Got some papers that I am serving today to some people down here pacing. So, you know, we always want to make sure that we look official when we are out doing the different aspects of the job and what-not. For some reason this vehicle gives me a more official look than my black tow truck. So, doing the job, wearing the different hats that we have to wear. We are going to ping this device real quick though. Then we are going to walk up here and we'll get on video putting a GPS device on this thing. This is her boyfriend's parent's house most likely from what we understand. From talking to the relative and these people have a lot of money so you want to be careful. about going over any locked fences or any locked gates from what I can tell right from the street I can walk right up to the vehicle. # So, the only thing I really got to be concerned about is being seen walking up there. So, what I'm going to be doing is videoing and if someone comes out and approaches me and says "hey what are you doing?" I am going to say 'oh I saw some deer go running across your property here and we're just trying to get some video of 'em', and people are totally cool about that stuff around here. They'll be like 'okay no problem' but the idea is to reach the vehicle get the GPS device on it get away without anybody, you know, contacting us. So we'll see how that goes here in just a second as we get this thing set up. Also, based on you know the type of neighborhood this is there is the likelihood that the keys could still be in the vehicle. So, we'll want to check that too. see if it's unlocked and also check to see if it is a stick and a couple of other things that we'll want to know before coming up here with the tow truck. # There's the vehicle right up there in the driveway. Always want to look around for surveillance cameras and stuff like that.   Make sure someone is not watching you from inside the house. I don't see any cameras. Looks like they have a basement apartment, that's probably where the boyfriend, or in this case their son, and the girlfriend are staying. The girlfriend is our debtor. # Looks like I got up and down off the property clean. Got our GPS device placed. There was a car seat inside the vehicle, so she's got kids. We want to be aware of that when we pull up with the tow truck. Now we are going to go ahead and go get our truck and come back and secure a repo. # It's a beautiful area. We don't get a lot of repos up here in the mountains. Because most of the people that live up here are independently wealthy and the recession really doesn't affect them like it does the rest of us. The 99 percent. # There's our device. It pinged right there so you know we are getting a good ping on it up here. Even though we are in the mountains, we are still in a citywide area there's a lot of good coverage for the cell service around here so that is good. # All right, so we are back in the truck here, just stopping by my buddy's shop. He does repos, and he also makes keys. I called a buddy of mine over at the Mitsubishi dealership and got the key code for this car. After thinking about it, and on the way to pick up the car I realized that with that steep hill and everything that the go-jacks aren't going to work very good, and trying to back my truck up in there at that angle is not going to work out very well either. I mean I can do it, but the best option is going to be to have a $10 blank cut, just a mechanical key, it won't start it or anything, but it will allow me to open the door, put it in neutral and I can just roll that vehicle right down that driveway down to the street. #  RepoNut: Did I wake ya up?  Friend of cameraman: No, I had to get up anyway. RepoNut: I hear ya man, it's one of them days. Friend of cameraman: I found that Singleton lady's car. RepoNut: Where's it at? Friend of cameraman: In the back yard. We need to GPS it. RepoNut: Are you kidding me? Friend of cameraman: They are putting in the back yard. They are closing the gate and their locking it. I should have known better. RepoNut: Are they driving it? Friend of cameraman: Oh, yeah. RepoNut: Okay, yeah let's just get over there... Friend of cameraman: So, today I saw the fence open...RepoNut: yeah. Friend of cameraman: ...and that Saturn if you look at the house there's a double carport and the Saturn always parks here and this is her house. RepoNut: So, it is that house in Orem! Friend of cameraman: Yeah. RepoNut: They're just putting it behind that. I thought about that, too 'I wonder if they are putting it-- nah they wouldn't put it behind that fence'. Friend of cameraman: Oh, they are! RepoNut: They are. Friend of cameraman: Oh dude check this out....RepoNut: I got a GPS device on this Mitsubishi right now so let's tag...Friend of cameraman: Look at this ...RepoNut: (starts reading) "you are hereby notified, please be advised it is in violation of state law to defraud a secured creditor." Well of course, it's illegal to defraud a secured creditor. Who sent you this? Friend of cameraman: Somebody gave it to me to start putting on doors. RepoNut: West Utah code annotations 76-6-511 defrauding creditors. Of course it's illegal that's why they always take them to court and stuff, but these things never get prosecuted. Because... You talking about scaring people into stop messing around Friend of cameraman: Yeah.  RepoNut: See that's the best state law Utah has right now. # All right, so now this key we just had our buddy cut. We should be able to execute this repo a lot easier. I get a lot of people asking me: why we don't use keys? And have we ever used keys, and can you get keys, and how do you deal with cars that are chipped and programmed? A lot of questions like that so maybe this video, this repo, will help answer some of those questions about a) how we deal with it? and b) what are our options?So, we'll go over that stuff as we do this repo. # My plans are to pull up just past the driveway and walk up get in the vehicle, put it in neutral and just roll down that driveway.  You know controlling the speed of the vehicle, because I'll have mechanical breaking but, I won't have the power braking or the power steering, ah, because the engine will be off. So we just want to take it nice and slow down that driveway, get it out onto the street, and then we'll back up to it in our truck and hook it up. Hopefully, there won't be any contact. #  All right, we pinged the device one more time as soon as we came into the neighborhood. Which is standard protocol. You always make sure you ping it that way you're not heading up to an address where the vehicle has already been moved. And they come out of the neighborhood, they've a different way into town and you've come in a different way. The best practice is to always as you come into, like this one where it's a closed neighborhood, one way in one way out, once you pass that point where they'd basically have to pass you head on, you ping it one more time. #  Make sure the vehicle is still there, and that it is still just sitting in the driveway. So, we are just going to pass the driveway here. Right here, we'll spot the vehicle one more time visually. # This road actually dead-ends into a cul de sac, which we know from our previous scouting trip when we came to put the GPS device on it.  So, we'll get our truck turned around so that we've got it facing out of the neighborhood. Kind of pre-planning in our head. As we come down that driveway, we are going to back out a certain way so that the car is facing a certain way. We don't want to be facing up hill and this way because then we've got to hook the vehicle then go down here and turn around and go back past the address again. It's better to make sure you've got a clean shot out whenever possible. You want to be thinking about all those different scenarios when you're hooking a vehicle is: which way am I leaving? I know I've got the speed with the key, so I'm just going to pull up, just up the street here. And this is a downhill, so I actually have the ability to park down here just a little bit more. # We're about there, its just the inertia speed of the hill. Keep our foot on the break, get us down this hill, watch our driveway. #  You always want to make sure to control the speed of the vehicle and the breaks before you get close to your repo truck. I've actually had the breaks go all the way to the floor and at the last second pulled the e-break. Saved from smashing the front end of the vehicle. Didn't realize it didn't have no breaks, back in the day when I was a youngster doing this. So always, want to make sure you are thinking of stuff like that. # Now that we are out here on the street, and we're working nobody really has any say at what we're doing. I'm a business owner operating my business, on public property. I've already secured the vehicle. It's in my possession. If the owners of the vehicle come out they can rant, rave, and object to the repossession all they want and it doesn't really matter. # There's a real low clearance on this vehicle here so just going to run it all the way down. I've got all my hardware put together to finish putting my racks in the back of my truck for my dollies. It's going to be exciting to do the installation video on those they're coming in the next week, and the fabric material company that is making the cover for the back should be done this week as well. # So, that must have been the parents of the boyfriend pulling up in the Tahoe. They are probably going to go inside and inform them that we've got the vehicle out here on the street. Now that we've got it all secured and ready to go, we'll see if she comes down and wants to get the car seat out or any personal items, and give us the key that makes the vehicle run. # There we go nice and clean all for a $10 key. We would have still been messing with the go-jacks when he pulled up and as being as the guy lives in a multimillion dollar neighborhood, he could be an attorney or anybody else that knows their rights. And come out and tell us to "get the F off his property" and we've got to comply. It looks like the car's been glued back together a couple of times.
