    To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone

    Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.

    To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up

    Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We now need to open the application folder.

    We can do that by tapping the icon in the middle, at the bottom of the screen

    There is a grid of white dots. This is the icon for the applications folder.

    Now that the folder has been opened, we need to find and tap the Gmail application
    .
    There is a Gmail icon, which is an envelope with a red 'M', and underneath it says the word "Gmail". Your application may be in a different location, so look for the icon in your folder. We now need to find the settings menu.

    To do that, we need to tap the icon in the top left-hand corner

    There are 3 horizontal lines. This will open up a menu.

    We want to scroll down and tap on "Settings"

    Tap on the first option, "General settings"

    We want the option that says "Sender image"
    .
    Underneath it says, "Show beside name in conversation list". We can see it is currently on because the box is blue with a white check mark inside. That means that the image of the sender will be in the conversation list. To turn it off so that we don't see the image with the name, press down on the box.

    The box will then be empty, indicating that this option has been turned off

    To turn it on, press down on the box again.
