Setup Pattern Lock for HTC One M8

Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to set up the draw pattern function to unlock the screen of an HTC One M8.
Steps
- 1To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on top of the phone.
- 2To unlock the phone, swipe the screen upwards.Once the phone has been activated, we will see the lock screen.
- 3As we have just seen, we have a lock screen activated on this HTC One M8. This is what we have to protect our phone, but we can add an additional security measure. As we can see, it is very easy to activate the lock screen. We just swipe up. It does not really offer us any real protection. What the draw pattern function does is that it allows us to create a personal pattern which other people don't know and this makes our phone more secure. We are going to show you how to set that up now.Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen and at the bottom, we will see these icons here.
- 4To swipe the Notifications panel down, start right at the top of the screen, and swipe downwards and as we can see, the Notifications panel has appeared.To do this, we need to find the Setting menu and to do that, we need to swipe the Notifications panel down.
- 5We can see that there is a white cog icon, this is our Settings icon. Press down on it and it will open up our Settings menu.We are looking for the Settings icon in the top-right-hand corner of the screen.
- 6We can see it says the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
- 7We can see that it says the word "PERSONAL" in a gray bar.Let's scroll down until we get to the "PERSONAL" section.
- 8Press down on this section and that will open up a menu.We are looking for the word "Security" and next to the word "Security", there is a padlock icon.
- 9Underneath, it says "Lock screen" and as we saw earlier, that is the option we have setup. Press down on this section and it will give us our security options.We want the first option in here which says "Screen lock".
- 10We can see, it says, "Draw pattern to unlock screen". This is great protection because it creates a private personal pattern that other people don't know. Press down on this option where it says "Pattern".We want the "Pattern" option.
- 11We have a grid made of points and we are going to create a pattern. All we are going to do is press down on the point that we want to start and then make a pattern with our finger. For example, if I wanted to start on the bottom right-hand corner, press down on that dot and make a pattern with our finger. Hold down on the screen and make a pattern with our finger. When we are happy with that, we will be able to continue.Here, we have the nine points.
- 12I am going to start on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, press down and I am going to move my finger up and down. Here, we can see: at the top, it says "Pattern recorded" and we can see the pattern is a green color now.Now I am going to make the pattern.
- 13Press down on retry to create another pattern.We can retry if we are not happy with this pattern by pressing down on the "RETRY" button in the bottom left-hand corner in the gray box.
- 14I think I am happy with that pattern.There we go, we can see that there is another pattern there.
- 15We can see it in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.Now, we can press down on the word "CONTINUE".
- 16Draw the same pattern again.It is going to ask us to draw the pattern again to confirm.
- 17Once we have done it properly, we can confirm the choice by pressing down on the "CONFIRM" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
- 18"Setup is complete".It says here:
- 19Do you want to "Show all notification content", "Hide sensitive notification content", or "Don't show notifications at all"? You need to make the choice that is right for you. If we still want to see notifications when our device is locked, we can leave it as the first choice. If we want to change it, just press down on the options so that the green circle moves. I am going to leave it as it is because I am happy with that option.Now we have another option which says, "When your device is locked, how do you want notifications to show?".
- 20Now press down on the word "DONE" at the bottom of the screen.
- 21Now we can see where it says "Screen lock", it says "Pattern" underneath.
- 22What we are going to do now is we are going to do, is we are going to make the phone sleep and then turn it back on again so that we can see how this new function works.Press down on the Power button at the top of the phone to make the phone sleep.
- 23"Draw pattern to unlock".Press down on the Power button again to turn the phone on and here we can see that if we swipe up, it is going to ask us to enter the pattern.
- 24Use the same method, press down on the screen to start, hold down, and then make the pattern.
- 25Once we have made the pattern, we can see that it has accepted it and it has taken us straight back into the phone.
