Retrieve navigation icon that has been removed from Samsung Galaxy S3

Maybe you are wondering right now why your Navigation icon has disappeared after the recent Google Maps updates. A lot of people who are using Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 and Galaxy Note are experiencing the same problem, and most of them can't seem to find any solution on their own. Many people said that was the worst update ever. However, the icon actually did not disappear, and you can restore it to its previous place on your Home screen by simply following the steps below.

Instructions

Bringing back the blue Navigation icon.

    Go to your Applications list and tap on the Settings icon.

    On the Application manager, swipe to the left until you get to the "ALL" tab.

    Once you are in your Application info, swipe down and find the "Clear cache" button; tap it.

    (Note: This will restore your previous Google Maps application data, settings or factory version and interface, including your missing blue navigation icon.

Use navigation again on Android Version 4.3

With the latest upgrade to 4.3, some users have problems of uninstalling updates as this feature has been removed. Luckily, we still have another way on how to bring back the old navigation icon. Follow the procedures below to get that old icon/app back.

So where did the Navigation icon go?

The update on the Maps application caused the apparent disappearance of Navigation icon. Navigation has been incorporated into the Maps app so you can still use it through Maps. Google thought that it would be better to have one single app than to have two separate, complementing applications. Uninstall Maps

Since you cannot uninstall updates anymore, you need to uninstall the current version of Maps. To uninstall it:

    From your Application Manager page, scroll your way to the right until you will be on the "All" tab

    Confirm the action and Maps will now be uninstalled.

Download an older version of Maps

Once Maps has been uninstalled, install an older version of Maps so the old navigation icon will appear too. To install old Maps:

    From your Home screen, tap on the Apps icon located on the lower-right part of your phone's screen.

    Download the Maps 6.1.1 on your phone

    You can download the root version and the non-root version.

    Once download is complete, pull-down the Notification bar and tap on the notification that download has been completed.

    The downloaded old Maps will now be installed, wait for the installation to be done.

Disable auto-updates of Applications

To be sure that the same problem will not happen again, make sure that you disable auto-update of applications on your device. To disable auto-update, follow the procedures below:

Tips Tricks & Warnings

There is no "Uninstall updates" button

If the Maps has no "Uninstall updates", just follow the rest of the instructions and restart your phone. The Navigation icon should show in the Application list. The blue Navigation icon did not return

If you cannot find the Navigation icon on your Home screen, go to your application list. To go to your application list, tap on the "Application" icon on the lower-right part of your Home screen. You should be able to see the Navigation icon on the list. If you still cannot find it, restart your device to see if the application is now on your device. If it still doesn't show up, try to do the steps again; this time make sure that you follow every step. Only perform a reset when you still cannot get the results that you want. Remember to backup you data before doing the reset.

Maps is not listed

If you cannot find "Maps", you may be on the wrong tab. Make sure that you are on the "All" tab so that you will be able to see all the applications installed on your Samsung Galaxy S3. On the All tab, scroll your way down until you see "Maps".

After installation of upgrade for Galaxy S3 to Android 4.3, there is no "uninstall updates" option

Android 4.3 has removed the remove updates option. Thus, you won't be able to rollover / uninstall updates. The only option left is to forcefully remove the update by uninstalling the Maps application. Once maps is uninstalled, download the older version of Maps like Google Maps 6.1.1.
