Get Started with HTC BlinkFeed on Your HTC One M8

You are watching VisiHow. Today, we are going to show you how to get started with HTC BlinkFeed on the HTC One M8 smartphone.
Steps

Double-tap the screen or press the power button at the top of the phone to unlock it

The lock screen will be shown.

Swipe up to unlock the phone

This will bring up the main area. In this tutorial, the BlinkFeed is already open, which is how the phone should look when it is turned on and unlocked.

Swipe right if BlinkFeed news is not on the screen

This will bring out the "Highlights" menu, which gives the option to search for content by tapping the text box with "Search for highlights", see the highlights, or get to the settings menu.

Tap the icon with three vertical dots to open up various options available in the settings menu

A single press on "Services & Apps" will open up a menu with services and applications. The menu is always up-to-date. For this tutorial, Twitter and "Restaurant recommendations" have been recently updated.

It will launch the Google+ application. Google+ will warn you that it wants to obtain certain privileges in the phone. It will require to view the profile, view and manage its own configuration data in the Google Drive, manage and view Google+ posts, comments, and stream, and view the Google+ circles, people, and pages.

Tap "Cancel" if the privileges should not be given to the application

The button is located in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Tap "Sign-in" to give the privileges and sign in with the associated e-mail account and password

For this example, the VisiHow@gmail.com account will appear under the "Google+" line in the "Services & Apps" menu, and there will be a green box with a check next to it.

Scroll down and add something else if needed

Tap the arrow in the upper-left corner near "Services & Apps" to go back to the BlinkFeed screen

Scroll down to check BlinkFeed

There are different newsfeeds and different bits and pieces of information.

Swipe right if something else needs to be added to the BlinkFeed

Google+ is going to show up in the menu, as it can be seen.

Tap the three vertical lines to open up the settings menu

Now, things can be added to BlinkFeed. For the tutorial, "Headline News", "Business", "Environment", and "Gaming" are going to be selected.

Tap the first option to be added

It is "Headline News" for this example. Once the option loads, there will be the choice to select the location of headline news. As a lot of people are getting news from Associated Press and Reuters, the rest, The Huffington Post, Headline News, AFP, and Euronews, are going to be left unchecked.

Several options can be selected.

Tap the back arrow in the upper left corner of the screen

In the video, the button is tapped twice, and this will bring up the initial screen, which is too far from the "Add content" options.

To get back to the "Add content" screen, swipe right

In this example, it is "Business".

Select either "Business Highlights" or "Bloomberg" or both

For the example, only Bloomberg is selected because Bloomberg shows both trending news and business highlights. Tap the back arrow in the upper left corner of the screen. This will bring up the previous screen, "Add content".

Tap the next option to be added

In this example, it is "Environment".

Tap the "Environment Highlights" option to select it and get an overview of environment highlights

This will bring up the previous screen, "Add content".

In this example, it is "Gaming".

To change the language of highlights, press and hold "Add content" in the upper section of the screen

The options to change the language from Global English to a whole variety of languages will be given.

Select the appropriate language

This will bring up the BlinkFeed screen that will be updating. Once it is updated, the highlights, or news, will be visible. Now, a whole selection of news specific to the items selected in the previous steps will be shown.

Scroll down to a required item that is deemed interesting

For example, the item with big trucks. There is news on Dead State: Reanimated on Steam. This is just an example.

Tap the back arrow in the upper left corner of the screen to go back to BlinkFeed

Scroll back up to "Highlights" if the main menu needs to be accessed

To remove content from BlinkFeed, swipe right

This will expand the selection. For the tutorial, it is "Environment".

Tap the items that need to be removed

It will place an "x" in the check box next to the item.

Tap "CANCEL" at the bottom of the screen to cancel content removal

Tap "REMOVE (*)" to remove the selected content

The asterisk will have the number of selected items. The selected content will be removed, and BlinkFeed will be updated.

Tap the hotdog menu or swipe right to see the selected content for BlinkFeed

The removed content will be no longer visible in the "Highlights" menu.

Tap the "Settings" option

Tap "Auto refresh" to change the way the BlinkFeed will be updated

By default, it is set to automatic updating when the phone is connected to a WiFi network.

Tap "Offline news reading" to turn offline news reading off or on

Tap "Full Article" if textual and visual information must be stored for offline use

Tap "Text only" to receive only textual data for reading offline

Sometimes, it is important to receive business highlights and other information when the phone is not connected to the Internet. For instance, business information might be important and crucial and must be readily available on a subway train, between major cities, and where the connection is poor.

Tap "Choose Highlights topics" to choose which topics should be highlighted

It may be important to keep the topics highlighted. However, when travelling, Google+, Calendar, Zoe, and TV might be not interesting.
