Android phones show most of the phone's important information on the status bar located at the upper right portion of the screen. These status indicators tells the user about the phone's signal, battery level, notifications, active connections and other important things that the user needs to know. Status indicators are represented by icons, knowing the meaning of each icons allows the user to have full awareness about the phone's Status
May apply to most Samsung phones and other Android phones
These Howiki is designed specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S4 but may also apply to most Samsung phones and other Android devices.
May not apply to phones with Custom ROMS
Phones with custom ROMS may have different icons since some change them based on the developer's preferences.

No signal. This icon shows that your phone is not receiving any network signal | |
Signal strength. This icon shows your network's signal strength as received by your phone. | |
Roaming. This icon shows your network's roaming signal strength as received by your phone. | |
GPRS network signal. This icon shows your network's GPRS signal strength as received by your phone | |
EDGE network signal. This icon shows your network's EDGE signal strength as received by your phone | |
UMTS network signal. This icon shows your network's UMTS signal strength as received by your phone | |
HSDPA network signal. This icon shows your network's HSDPA signal strength as received by your phone | |
HSPA+ network signal. This icon shows your network's HSPA+ signal strength as received by your phone | |
LTE network signal. This icon shows your network's LTE signal strength as received by your phone | |
Wi-Fi network signal. This icon shows your network's Wi-Fi signal strength as received by your phone | |
Bluetooth turned on. This icon shows that the phone's Bluetooth is on and ready to connect to other Bluetooth-enabled devices. | |
GPS turned on. This icon shows that the phone's GPS radio is on and ready to use the location services of your phone. | |
Active call. This icon shows that an a call is currently active. | |
Missed call. This icon shows that and a call has been missed. You can scroll the notification bar down and tap on the missed call icon to see the details. | |
Air gesture feature active. This icon shows that the phone's air gesture feature is turned on. Air gesture allows you to control your phone without actually touching it. | |
Smart screen gesture feature active. This icon shows that the phone's smart screen gesture feature is turned on. Smart screen allows you to scroll your phone's screen without actually touching it. | |
Syncing active. This icon shows that the phone is currently syncing with the internet. | |
Connected to computer via USB. This icon shows that the phone is currently connected to a computer through a USB connection. | |
Phone has no SIM card. This icon shows that the phone has no SIM card inserted on it and thus, cannot use any network service. | |
An SMS or MMS is available. This icon shows that the phone has an available SMS or MMS that is still unread. | |
Alarm is activated. This icon shows that the phone has an active alarm set. | |
Silent mode is activated. This icon shows that the phone is on Silent mode. Messages and call will not give a ringtone warning on this mode. | |
Vibration mode is activated. This icon shows that the phone has the vibration on. Any notification will make the phone vibrate to let the user know of it. | |
Flight mode is activated. This icon shows that the phone has activated the flight mode. Under this mode, all radio signals are turned off (network service, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) | |
Error on phone. This icon shows that the phone has encountered an error. To view the details of the error, drag the notification bar down and tap on the error icon to show details of error.\ | |
26 Level of battery. This icon shows the remaining power of the battery. An icon with full green means that the phone is fully-charged while an icon with no green on it means that the battery is close to being drained. |
