Edited by Freya, VisiHow, Eng
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to create a watermark in GIMP in Windows 7.
Steps
1
You should have GIMP and a document open
.
You can either do this by creating a new document or opening an existing one from the "File" menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
2
The "Toolbox" window can be moved and resized to see the main window
.
3
4
Click "New..." or "Open..."
.
You can refer to our other tutorials to find out exactly how to create or open documents. Let's click "Open...".
5
In this video, a file is found and clicked
.
Then, "Open" is clicked. Usually, you create a watermark in its own document and bring it to other documents. Let's create a watermark.
6
Click "Create a new layer..." button in the the "Layers" panel
.
The panel is on the right side. The button is in the bottom-left corner of the panel.
7
Change the name to "Watermark"
.
8
Change "Width" and "Height" and click an option from "Layer Fill Type"
.
In this video, "Transparency" is selected. This way, the watermark will have no background on top of other images.
9
Now, you have the transparent "Watermark" layer.
10
Use any tool to create a watermark to go over the top
.
Usually, the watermark is a logotype or the name of a business, but it can be anything else. For this tutorial, we'll click the "Text Tool".
11
In this video, "VisiHow" is typed, and the text size is adjusted
.
Then, the watermark is moved around.
12
After that, you can make the watermark more opaque or less opaque by clicking the "Opacity" bar
.
The opacity depends on the background. You can also set the "Opacity" by entering the value in the box. It is recommended to set the opaqueness to 80% maximum, as you don't want to distract people from the image.
13
Finally, you can save the image with the watermark
.
Alternatively, remove or hide all of the layers besides the watermark layer and save the the transparent layer. Save or export the layer to JPEG (or another format), which you can open and put onto other layers.
This is a VisiHow tutorial, and we've just shown you how to create a watermark in GIMP in Windows 7. If you have any questions of comments regarding this tutorial or the program used, just add them to the section below. Thank you for choosing VisiHow!
