If you are using your Samsung Galaxy S4 for the first time, you are required to fully charge it. You can charge your device using the authentic charger or by using a USB cable and connecting it on a computer. Normally, using the normal charger would be faster when compared to charging to a computer via a USB cable.
Charging Using the Charger
Fully charging using the normal charger (USB power adapter) may take 3-4 hours on the first time that you will be charging it. To charge using the USB power adapter:
- 1Connect the USB cable to the USB power adapter.
- 2Plug the USB cable into the charger jack of your Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 3Plug-in your power adapter to a power supply socket.
- 4Wait for your phone to be fully charged.
- 5Unplug the charger from your Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 6Unplug the charger from the power supply socket.
Charging Through a Computer Via USB Cable
Charging through a computer can be convenient but due to lower power supply, it may take longer compared to normal charging. To charge using the computer:
- 1Plug the USB cable into the charger jack of your Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 2Plug-in the other end of the USB Cable to a USB port in a computer.
- 3Wait for your phone to be fully charged.
- 4Unplug the USB cable from your Samsung Galaxy S4.
- 5Unplug the USB cable from the computer's USB port.
Battery Status While Charging
While charging, your battery icon will change to indicate that it is currently being replenished. Five circles on a battery icon means that your battery is still charging. When it has fully charged, it will show a battery with a 100% on it. Disconnect your charger when you see this to save electricity and avoid your battery from overcharging.
Saving Your Battery
If abused, your battery may have a shorter life than expected. To avoid this, make sure that:
- 1Use your task manager to view active applications.Close all unnecessary applications when you are not using it.
- 2Only deplete once a month and then fully charge before using.Do not deplete battery levels frequently.
- 3Deactivate Bluetooth when not using
- 4Deactivate Wi-Fi when not using
- 5Though it may have an auto-sleep programmed, you can save more battery juice by pressing the power button once (sleep) when you are not using you phone.Switch your device to sleep mode hen you are not using it.
- 6Deactivate auto-syncing of applications
- 7Decrease the backlight time of your device
- 8Decrease the display brightness.
Tips Tricks & Warnings
- Only use authentic Samsung chargers, batteries, cables and adapters. Use of sub-standard materials may cause damage on your phone. Furthermore, your claim for a warranty may be forfeited.
- Your phone will indicate that it is running out of power. When it says so (below 15%), charge your phone as soon as possible.
- If possible, close all running applications and wireless connections (Wifi, Bluetooth, SBeam, except GSM)to maximize charging.
- Make sure to connect the charger properly as improper connection may damage your phone. Take note that warranty does not cover damages due to negligence and misuse.
- If you are charging and you are not able to use the touchscreen, it means that you have an unstable power supply. This may damage your battery if this will frequently happen. If this happens, remove the charger from the power supply socket and wait until the power supply stabilizes. You can also use an AVR (automated voltage regulator) to stabilize your electric current.
