You're watching VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to change the GameBoy colors on the VisualBoyAdvance emulator.
Steps
1
To begin, open the VisualBoyAdvance emulator
.
I have an icon for the emulator on my desktop, but you may have the program saved in a different location.
2
Next, load a Game Boy game
.
To do this, go to "File" in the menu across the top of the screen.
3
In the drop down menu, select "Open Gameboy"
.
4
For this tutorial, I will select "Kid Icarus" by double clicking it.
5
As you know, the GameBoy did not have color
.
We are able to set colors for the game on the VisualBoy emulator. To set colors, click "Options" in the menu at the top of the screen.
6
In the drop down menu, go to "Gameboy"
.
7
In the expanded menu that appears, select "Colors"
.
"Colors" should be at the bottom of this menu.
8
A new window will appear on your screen with three palettes
:
"Default", "User 1", and "User 2". Choose one by clicking on it to place the radio button next to your preferred option.
9
Underneath the palette selection area you will see four boxes for the "Background" colors, and four boxes for the "Sprite" colors
.
Click on the boxes to change the colors. For this tutorial, I will click on the box that is currently black.
10
A color picker window will open after you click one of these boxes
.
You can use this window to select a new color. I will change the black areas of the background to green. When you have selected a new color, click on "OK".
11
I will follow the same procedure to change the white color on the sprite to pink
.
12
After you have selected all of your new colors, click "OK" on the "Colors" window
.
After clicking, the colors you have selected will change.

Questions and Answers
Is there a way to keep the colors locked even if you go to new areas in games?
See, I did what you said, and played Pokemon red. Each time I go into a new area, it goes back to the normal colors and I have to change it back manually. I want to know if there is another way to keep the colors instead of having to do it each time I go into a new area. It just changes back to normal each time I visit a new area.
