Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to change the default SMS application on an HTC One M8.

To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on top of the phone

Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen

To unlock the phone, press down on the screen and hold down until the two lock icons appear at the bottom

Then swipe up.

Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen, and at the bottom of the screen will be several icons

We now need to find the Settings menu, and to do that, we need to swipe the Notification panel down.

To do that, press down at the top of the screen, hold down, then swipe down

Now, the Notification panel has appeared

We will see an icon at the top right-hand corner of the Notification panel screen

It is a white cog icon. This is our Settings icon.

Press down on the icon, and it will open up the "Settings" menu

It says the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.

Just underneath the word "Settings" are the words "WIRELESS & NETWORKS" in a gray bar

This is the first section, and it is the section we want to be in now.

At the bottom of that section is the word "More", and underneath that it says, "Data usage, HTC Mini+, NFC..." To the left of those words there is an icon with three gray dots in a horizontal line

Press down on this section, and it will open up the "Wireless & networks" menu

On that menu, we want the second option
.
It says, "Default SMS app". What this option allows is to do is customize exactly which application we want to use as default. There are many different SMS applications. They all have different functions, and they have good points and bad points. We may want to choose our default SMS application.

Press down on that second option, and it will bring up a short menu
.
There are currently only two applications available because we have not downloaded anymore. The first option is "Hangouts", and the second is "Messages". "Messages" is the default SMS application. When pressing down on the "Messages" icon on the Home screen, this is what appears. It is the basic default application that comes with the Android software. We can change this if desired. We may want to use Hangouts instead to send messages because maybe it has different features, different functions, or different layouts.

In order to change the SMS app, just press down on any of the application on the screen

On this demonstration, there are only two, so we'll just choose the alternative, which is "Hangouts".
