Instructions

  1. 1
First is to know the date of your last menstruation period
    .
To know this every woman should track their period every month by marking the calendar their first day of every menstruation period. Although some menstruation takes 3 to 5 days the most important day here is the date of your first day. Therefore when you keep records of your menstruation period you will easily know the date of your last menstruation.

  3. 3
From your date of last menstruation period move 3 months backward, then add 7 days and add 1 year
    .
From our example July 16, 2013; if you move 3 months backwards you will have April; if you add 7 days you will have 23; add 1 year then you have 2014, therefore your expected dated of delivery is April 23, 2014.

The reason why we add seven days is because of the assumption that a conception occurred within 14 days after the start of your monthly menstrual period
    .
It is also explained that the fertilized egg is implanted to the blood rich lining in woman's uterus after fertilization.

  5. 5
In the event your date falls during the first three months of the year there is no need to add an additional year
    .
For example you have February 9, 2013; move 3 months backwards and you will have November;add 7 days and you will have 16; since February falls in the first three months of the year there is no need for you to add 1 year. therefore your Expected Date of Delivery is November 16, 2013.

In case your days is more than the days of the month then you will have to carry it out to the next month
    .
For example June 27, 2013; move 3 months backwards and you will have March; add 7 days and you will have 34; add 1 year and you will have 2014; there fore you will have March 34, 2014 but there is no march 34 in the calendar then you will have to carry out the remaining days to the next moth since March has only 31 days then you have 3 remaining days more, you will need to carry it out to the next month making it April 3, Making your expected date of delivery to April 3, 2014.

Calculate remaining days

  1. 1
    Calculate total days pregnant
    .
Convert the months, weeks, and days that have passed since conception into days. For example, someone pregnant for three months, two weeks, and three days is 108 days into the cycle. Math breakdown: Three months is about 91 days and two weeks equals 14 days. Therefore, 91 days plus 14 days plus 3 days is approximately 108 days.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  2. 2
Subtract the total days pregnant from 280
    .
The estimated duration of pregnancy is nine months, which equals 280 days. 280 minus 108 equals 172 days remaining until the estimated due date.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  3. 3
    Optional 10 months calculation
    .
Some physicians prefer to base pregnancy on 10 months instead of nine. In this case use 300 instead of 280 days as the duration value. 300 minus 108 equals 202 days remaining until the estimated due date.

Why we add 7 days in expected date of delivery

The main purpose of adding seven days is to calculate the expected due date of that pregnancy. The due date is also called Expected date of confinement (EDC) by physicians. However, due date is an estimate of when you will give birth, and not a guarantee that the baby will come on that specific day. However, It is very rare that a woman gives birth on her exact due date. Eighty percent of women give birth within 10 days of the due date and 20 percent of women give birth outside of their parameters. Knowing your due date will help the would-be mother to plan ahead and for her to be ready to answer if someone asks her about her due date.

  2. 2
Once you found the first day of your last menstruation period, check the date of delivery below it in blue
    .
For example, I encircled the 20th of September, which is my first day of my last menstruation period. Now I will encircle the number below it, which is the number 27. This means that this will be the estimated due date of my delivery. It may either be on June 27, 2014 or July 27, 2014. That's it! It's just simple.
