Block and Unblock People From Messages in HTC One M8
Edited by Thor, Rushell, Jen M
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to block and unblock a contact in the Messages section of the HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on the top of the phone
.
Once the phone has been activated, we'll see the lock screen.
2
To unlock the phone, press down on the screen and hold down until the two lock icons appear at the bottom
.
Then swipe up. Once the phone is unlocked, we will see the home screen. At the bottom are several different icons.
3
To enter the Messages section, press the second icon from the left
.
It is a square speech bubble, and it has three horizontal green lines in the middle.
4
Now, we can see our messages, of which we have one
.
We want to demonstrate how to block a message as well as block the contact. Blocking the message requires blocking a contact as well. There are two ways to do this.
5
First, press and hold down on the message itself until some options appear
.
6
Press the bottom option, "Block contact"
.
It will then block the contact and move the message to the blocked section.
7
If we press anywhere else on the screen, that menu of options will disappear
.
8
We can also press the three white squares in a vertical line at the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
9
On this menu of options is also the option to "Block contacts"
.
10
After pressing on this, it will allow us to choose which contacts we want to block by pressing on the squares on the right side of the screen
.
Each message should have its own square. In this demonstration, there is only one message, so there's just one square.
11
Pressing down on a square will make it turn blue, and a checkmark will appear inside it
.
12
To unselect the message, tap on the box again, and the check will disappear
.
13
After selecting messages and contacts to block, it will show the number of contacts selected in parentheses next to "Block" at the bottom right corner of the screen
.
14
Press down on the word "Block", and it will move the message or messages to the blocked section and block that contact
.
15
If we tap on "Messages" at the top left-hand corner of the screen, it will bring up the three different areas of the Messages section
.
Messages can be stored in "General", "Secure", or "Block".
16
This is where we have our blocked messages and blocked contacts.
17
The message and contact on this page are currently blocked, and any future messages sent from this contact will come to the "Block" section automatically
.
We will now demonstrate how to unblock a contact and place these messages back into the "General" section.
18
If we press and hold down on the messages in the "Block" section, it will bring up some "Message options"
.
We would assume that if we "Unblock" the message at this point, that it should just be unblocked and return to the "General" section.
19
Press down on "Unblock", which is the option at the bottom of the list
.
20
Now, the message is gone
.
21
Press down on "Block" at the top left corner of the screen
.
22
Go to the "General" section at the top of the menu that appears
.
23
The message is in the "General" section, but after a few seconds, it disappears
.
Even though you tried to unblock the message and place it back in the General section, it is not going to do it because it still thinks that the contact is blocked. It is trying to move the message, but we haven't actually removed the individual contact from the block list.
24
To do this, we need to press the three white dots in a vertical line located in the top right corner of the screen
.
25
Now press on "Block list", which is the second option in white text
.
26
Now, we will see the blocked contact
.
We need to unblock the contact before we can move the message back into the General section.
27
Press the three white squares in a vertical line at the top right corner of the screen
.
28
Tap on the fist option, "Remove block contacts"
.
29
Next, we can choose different contacts by tapping on the squares on the right side of the screen
.
In this demonstration, we only have one blocked contact. Therefore, we are going to press down on that box.
30
This will put an "x" in the box
.
31
Press on "Remove" at the bottom right corner of the screen
.
32
A message will appear asking, "Are you sure you want to remove the blocked contacts?"
33
34
Now, there is nobody in the "Blocked contacts" folder
.
35
Go back by pressing the arrow at the top left-hand corner of the screen next to "Blocked contacts"
.
36
At the next screen, press down on "Messages" at the top left
.
37
This will confirm that we are in the "General" section, as it shows a blue dot next to "General"
.
38
Press on "Block" to go to that section
.
39
We will see that there are "No Messages Found"
.
40
Press the word "Block" again, then press on "General" to return to that section
.
The message has been moved back to the General section, and the contact has been unblocked.
41
This concludes our tutorial on how to block and unblock a contact in the Messages section of an HTC One M8
