Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this series of videos, we are exploring the world of poetry. In this particular video, we are going to focus on how to write a poem about yourself or, in my case, myself.

   Writing about oneself or ourselves can be very cathartic

   It allows us to examine our consciousness and subconsciousness and to help us to express them. We also represent a very rich source of material, and perhaps, ourselves are the thing we know most about. Writing about ourselves can help us to get to know ourselves even better.

   Who you are

   :

   Try to define your personality and character. What are your positives and negatives? What do you wish you could improve on in the future? What would you like to learn to let go?

   Physicality

   :

   Describe yourself physically. What are your physical attributes? What are your physical flaws? Do you have any unique physical features, like one strange bendy leg, or a very long toe? Use similes to compare yourself to other elements.

   :

   Include your memories and experiences of life. What do you remember from your childhood? What adventures have you had? What were your life changing moments?

   :

   Where do you genetically come from? What is your ancestry, are you descended from Inuits, Aztecs, Vikings or aliens? Who are your family, who are the people that shaped your life?

To write a poem about yourself that rhymes it is highly recommended that you obtain a copy of a Rhyming dictionary, which is readily available in bookstores. There are also many rhyming dictionaries online including the [<http://rhymezone.com> Rhyme Zone rhyming dictionary and thesaurus] or [<http://rhymer.com>The Free Rhyming Dictionary].

One of the best ways to find the inspiration to write about yourself is to pretend you are someone else observing you and see what comes to you. Yet another way is to look in the mirror and start describing to yourself what you see. Record it in a tape recorder and free associate to see what comes to mind. Some people also have success letting their imaginations flow while listening to their favorite music and pretending that they are in a movie about themselves.

How do I write a poem about my life?
