What if the @ symbol does not work then what can I do?

What if the @ smymbol does not work which is the problem I am runing into when I try to bypass the Google account. Please help me I have been working on this for about 2 months now and I know it should only take no more then 20 minutes the way the videos I have watched seemed. so if you can please help me and tell me what to do if that don't work. I do not know how to go to the next step after tapping on the @ smybol because when I tap the @ nothing comes up and then when I let go it just goes and puts the @ in the email box. So how do I go on if nothing pops up when I hit the @ smybol? I have tried: Everything but I can't get anywhere near acutlly accompinplish it. I think it was caused by: I bought the phone on a markertplace and can not get a hold of the people I bought ut from
