Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to view and manage the Google Account History Settings on an HTC One M8.
To begin, turn the phone On by pressing the power button located on top of the phone.
Once the phone has been activated, we will see the lock screen. To unlock the phone, press down on the middle of the screen until we see the padlock icon and swipe up.
Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the home screen and at the bottom, we will see these icons here.
Now, we need to find the Settings menu and to do that, we need to swipe the notifications panel down. To open the notifications panel, press and hold down at the top of the screen, and swipe down.
Now we can see that the notifications panel has appeared and we are looking for a white cog icon which is in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This is our Settings icon. Press down on it and it will open up our Settings menu.
We can see that it says the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
Now let's scroll down until we get to the "PERSONAL" section. We can see that it says the word "PERSONAL" in this gray bar.
We are looking for the "Accounts & sync" option. Next to the words "Account & sync", there is an icon which is a gray circle and there are two arrows around it creating another circle. Let us press down on this section.
We want to go to the "Google" option which is at the top. Press down on the word "Google".
In this section, press down on the word "Search".
In this section, press down on the word "Accounts and privacy".
We want this option which says, "Google Account History: View and manage your settings and information". It is a very important section because it allows us to manage our information which is very important. Press down on "Google Account History".
Here we have all the different types of history that we have. We have "Web & App Activity", "Device Information", "Voice & Audio Activity", "YouTube Search History", "YouTube Watch History", and "Google Location History". We can see that most of them are turned On and the "Google Location History" is turned Off. Suppose we don't want the "YouTube Search History" to be recorded, then we can turn this option Off and all we have to do is press down on the option that we want and it will open up the option.
Now we can turn it On and Off. We can see that it is On right now because this icon here is green.
If we press down on this icon, we can see now that it is gray.
It is going to give us this warning though. It says, "Pause YouTube Search History? Pausing YouTube Search History will result in fewer recommendations for videos on YouTube and other Google products. Remember, pausing this history doesn't delete any previous activity, but you can view, edit and delete your private YouTube Search History data anytime. Note that the YouTube app on Android also has app and device-level settings related to search history used for auto completion of searches. This is independent of the account level YouTube Search History setting".
It will then ask us to confirm it. If we want to confirm it, press the word "PAUSE" which is located on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen in blue text.
If we want to turn it back On, we can do that by pressing down on the icon again.
Now it is going to give us another warning which says, "Your private YouTube Search History stores your searches on YouTube in order to help make future searches faster and give you better video recommendations". If we want to turn this back On, press this icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. It says "TURN ON" in blue text.
There we go, it has turned back On. The process is the same on all of the different options in this menu.
If we want to view any of the history, we can do that by pressing this icon in the gray bar at the bottom which says "MANAGE ACTIVITY". Press down on that and it is going to show us the activity for our YouTube account.
There we have our "Search history". We can see it says here: "batman vs superman trailer".
We also have our "Watch history". Press down on that and we can see all the different things that we have watched.
We have watched Batman vs Superman Trailer, we watched the "Dolly Parton - Jolene" (great song), and also the "Point Break - Official Trailer".
If we want to go back, press the back button here in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. The back button is a white arrow.
Press back until we have reached back into this menu. We can see that these are different options. We looked at "YouTube Search History" but we can look at the others as well. Follow the same advice I have given you to turn them On or Off or access them in order to manage and see what information or history is being stored.
