Use coconut oil for Alzheimer's
Edited by Ian Gabriel T. Tolledo, Eng, Maria Quinney, Lynn
Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia, is one that many people fear, especially when they reach certain age. Imagine all your life's experiences suddenly vanishing away, bit by bit, until you don't even know your friends or family anymore, much less your name. Thankfully, there's an available treatment (take note, not a cure) for Alzheimer's found in nature that can slow the worsening or even delay the onset of Alzheimer's - coconut oil! Read on!
The dreaded Alzheimer's
Alzheimer's is a mental disease that includes in its symptoms loss of memory, change in mood, and problems with communication. This illness also negatively affects the reasoning skills of the afflicted. While being forgetful and slow in old age is natural, Alzheimer's actually isn't! However, this disease can manifest when the brain is damaged by certain other diseases and conditions. People with this disease also have a shortage of certain important chemicals in their brain. These are chemicals involved with the brain's transmission of message. Alzheimer's is a progressive disease, meaning that gradually, more parts of the person's brain who is afflicted will deteriorate. As it progresses, so do the symptoms that come with it. Once a person is afflicted, there is no going back. Current medicine and supposed treatments may delay effects, but never really heal Alzheimer's.
Symptoms of Alzheimer's disease
A person who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's may not notice the first symptoms, such as lapses of memory and inability to find the right words - these are some of the most common early symptoms of this disease. As it progresses, they may also suffer from the following:
- 1They also become unsure in doing typical tasks, like using the remote control, counting change and remembering names or faces.Have difficulty doing normal everyday activities.
- 2Become more withdrawn from people, due to their communication problems and loss of confidence when interacting with people.
- 3Have mood swings - feeling sad, angry and scared by their increasing memory loss (this one is very sad indeed).
- 4Become more confused with mundane activities, forgetting appointments, places to go and recent events.
With the progress of disease, people with Alzheimer's must have someone who will support him or her during the period. Eventually, they will constantly need assistance with their daily activities. Remember that no two cases of Alzheimer's are the same. Everyone who experiences this illness is unique in the way they experience it.
The power of coconut oil
Aside from using it for cooking, coconut oil can indeed be used to reduce symptoms of Alzheimer's. Our brains get nutrients and glucose from carbohydrates, and if that's unavailable, then our brains can utilize energy from fats. This is where it gets exciting - the energy our brain gets is in the form of molecules called ketones. Coconut oil is a source food that our body easily converts into ketones. The question now is, how can we revive aging or afflicted brain cells in the elderly and other people with Alzheimer's? Easy - coconut oil!
- 1Through ketones, our brains have an alternative fuel to be used to revive parts of the brain. When people develop Alzheimer's, it suggests that the body is lacking or losing from nutrient starvation.
Many people are aware that coconut oils are healthy, but they didn't know that healthy fats found in coconut oil may start to repair slow neural pathways and even improve cognitive functioning and memory. While this is true for all ages, senior adults will benefit most from this.
Using coconut oil for Alzheimer's
There are many ways to incorporate coconut oil for your daily/regular intake. For example you can replace all of your cooking oil needs with organic virgin coconut oil. It's almost that simple. Below are some recipes which utilize coconut oil to boost brain function, and prevent the onset and slow present conditions of Alzheimer's.

Science and coconut oil
If ever you have ever considered trying coconut oil as a health supplement, virgin (unrefined) coconut oil will be preferable since it contains higher degrees of beneficial "polyphenols" (specifically, ferulic acid solution and p-coumaric acid). Polyphenols in coconut oil may be potentially useful for Alzheimer's (and other diseases) since they act as antioxidants. Antioxidants temper the harmful outcomes of inflammation, e. Grams., and free radical production, which then causes so much damage in patients with Alzheimer's and other diseases that involve tissue weakening.
- 1These include extra virgin organic olive oil and virgin grape-seed gas, both of which are an excellent source of polyphenol content as well. So, one benefit regarding coconut oil in Alzheimer's may derive from polyphenols appearing as antioxidants. Some other virgin oils are also reported to be a good choice for lowering Alzheimer's pathology in animal models.
- 2Coconut oil produces ketone bodies if the fats in the oil are digested because of the body. Ketone bodies serve to supply dearly needed "fuel" and energy to the brain when glucose quantities are low, as regarding Alzheimer's patients. When brain blood sugar is low, the brain in time breaks down fats to produce ketone bodies as an alternate source of electricity. This energy is essential for nerve cell survival and for synaptic activity which underlies learning and memory. Virgin coconut oil contains the fats which can be converted into ketone bodies that serves as an alternate energy source for brain. The ketone bodies might provide energy to cells that lack feeling and synapses inside the glucose-deprived brains of Alzheimer's sufferers. The second possible way coconut oil may be useful for Alzheimer's is based on the high levels of "ketone bodies" inside the oil.
