Steps

  1. 1
The diaphragm is a muscle that is located underneath the ribcage and right below the lungs
    .
Every time you take a breath, the diaphragm drops to make room for air that fills up your lungs. It is important to learn how to use the diaphragm correctly along with breathing, posture, and using abdominal muscles to help to increase your stamina, endurance, and control while singing or playing the wind or brass instruments, such as trumpet, clarinet, flute, woodwinds.

  2. 2
To understand where the diaphragm is, place your hands on your oblique muscles to the front of the kidneys
    .
If you place your hands on your oblique muscles, you can feel the expansion of the diaphragm when you take a breath. Try to focus on this area of the body when you breathe. Expand the diaphragm horizontally. Try not to protrude your abdomen.
