Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to talk about the "Type Tool" in Adobe Illustrator. This is the tool that is used to create and manipulate text.

    The "Type Tool" can be found in the toolbar located on the left side of the Adobe Illustrator window

    It is the third tool down from the top on the right side, and it looks like a letter T.

    Select the text by holding down the left mouse button, then clicking and dragging across the letters

    A character panel appears just below the menu at the top of the screen

    By clicking on the up or down arrows next to the number, the size of the text can be changed
    .
    When the cursor is placed near this area, a label will pop up that says "Font Size". Click the up arrow to make the text bigger or the down arrow to make it smaller.

    The font type can also be changed

    Click on the drop down menu next to "Character". Choose a font from the list.

    The font style can be changed by clicking on the next drop down menu

    A label will appear that says "Font Style" just before you click on the arrow to open that menu. Choose from regular, bold, italic or bold italic styles.

    To change the text into a graphic, first click on the "Selection Tool" on the toolbar

    It is the black arrow located on the top left in the toolbar. This will select the text.

    The blue dots are now surrounding the shape of the text. This is very useful because the text can now be manipulated in more ways.

    Click on the "Direct Selection Tool", which is the white arrow just to the right of the black arrow in the toolbar

    Select a part of a letter by holding the left mouse key and dragging around that part
    .
    For example, we can select just the dot on the I in VisiHow. Then we can delete that dot by clicking the delete key on the keyboard.

    The color of specific letters can also be changed by using the "Direct Selection Tool"
    .
    Select a letter and click on the color box near the bottom of the toolbar.

    To create a logo with self-created font, first use one of the built-in fonts. Then use the "Type Tool" to change the look of some of the letters. For example, if we select the H in VisiHow, and then use the "Direct Selection Tool" to click on one of the little white squares, or anchors, we can manipulate just that part of the letter.
