Steps

    You should have GIMP and a document opened
    .
    If "Toolbox" is blocking the menu, just move it by dragging it by the border.

    To open a document, go to "File" at the top left-hand corner of the screen

    Then, click "New..." from the menu

    You can also press "Ctrl" + "N" on the keyboard.

    With a document ready, double-click "Text Tool" in "Toolbox"

    This icon looks like a capital "A". This will change the cursor into an "I"-shaped symbol.

    Click on the canvas
    .
    A text box will appear. You can begin to type. If you look into the "Tool Options" window, then you will see that there are different settings that you can change. These settings can also be changed in the pop-up window that appears when you click the canvas to begin typing.

    In "Tool Options", you can change the "Size" value
    .
    You can do it by using the arrows to the right or by manually typing a number into the "Size" text box. This will change the font size.

    You can check and uncheck "Use editor" and "Antialiasing"

    You can select a unit of measurement for the text size by clicking the drop-down menu to the right of "Size"

    Proceed to edit your text settings according to your preferences

    Editing options include "Hinting", "Color", "Justify", and "Language". Finally, click the text box on the canvas to begin typing. Type text.

    Triple-click the text area
