Edited by Djinu, VisiHow, Dougie, DeleteQnA
You're watching VisiHow. In another tutorial, I demonstrated how to turn on and turn off the UI Tuner on the Nexus 6P. In this tutorial, I am going to demonstrate how to use the UI Tuner.
Steps
1
From the home screen, take two fingers and swipe down
.
2
This will reveal the gear shaped icon, which will take us over to "Settings."
3
Now, we scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the "Settings" menu and you will see "System UI Tuner." Tap this once
.
The screen will give you a warning, that this is fun for some, but not for all. The warning says: " System Ui Tuner gives you extra ways to tweak and customize the Android user interface. These experimental features may change, break, or disappear in future releases. Proceed with caution."
4
You will click on "GOT IT."
5
And you'll see the items that you can change
.
6
If you tap "Quick Settings"
.
It will allow you to change the items that appear when you take your two fingers and swipe down on the phone.
7
8
If you want to put in "Broadcast Tile", then you need to cancel it
.
9
You can also delete a tile
.
If you no longer want the "Hotspot", drag and drop it to the trashcan.
10
To delete a tile, you just drag and drop
.
So if I want to delete "Cast", I will drag it with my finger to the "Delete" symbol. I can delete as many as I want.
11
If I change my mind later, and I would like to add them back in, I will click on "Add tile."
12
Then, I can choose to add back "Hotspot", "Cast", "Location"
.
13
You can also change the location of these tiles on the screen
.
I can switch "Cellular Data" from being on the right-hand side to the left side, just by clicking and dragging.
14
I can also drag from the bottom to the top
.
That was the explanation on how to customize the quick control settings using the System UI Tuner.
15
Let's go back and see what other options we have
.
16
We can also change the "Status bar." The status bar is located at the top of the screen
.
And you can see that it gets busy with a lot of icons, when there is a lot of stuff going on.
17
We can tap on the Status Bar
.
18
I can start turning some of the options off
.
19
If I want to disable "WiFi" mode, which is the selected triangle symbol next to the battery, I can do that
.
20
Let's turn all of these off, and let's make the status bar clean up at the top
.
You will see that there is just the vibration mode left.
21
You can also make it go away by increasing the volume a little
.
Now, it's just the battery life that's indicated.
22
The last option that we can change inside the System UI Tuner is "Show embedded battery percentage." You'll see that the battery life here, looks like it's half full.
23
If I want to see the actual percentage, I'll slide the switch over to the right
.
You will see now that it shows 57% battery life left within the battery icon.
24
Before, if I wanted to know the exact amount of percentage within my battery, I would have to swipe down and look for the larger 57% located in the control panel
.
