Music Square is a feature on Samsung's native music player, available for Jelly Bean versions. This feature neatly categorizes your music files into certain moods and gives you the option to play them by moods. Think of it as an auto-playlist manager that, instead of grouping music files into artists, albums or genres, groups them into "moods". Depending on the music files' beat and pace properties, Music Square will categorize these files into any of the four moods: Exciting, Joyful, Calm, and Passionate. You can also change Passionate and Joyful into New and Old categories.

How To Get To Music Square On Galaxy S4
To get to Music Square, simply follow the procedures below:
- 1You can also press the "Home" key once.Go to your Home screen by pressing the "Back" key a few times.
- 2The action will take you to your device's list of installed applications.Once you are on your Home screen, tap on the "Application" icon on the lower-right part of the Favorites tab.
- 3From the list of applications, scroll your way to the "Music" icon and tap on it to open the Music application.
- 4Songs, Playlists, Albums, and Artists; scroll to the left to see the other two tabs: Music Square and Folders.On your Music application, you will initially see four tabs:
- 5Tap on the "Music Square" tab to get to the feature.
- 6By default, you can see the four mood quadrants, containing 25 squares. Each square represents a certain level of mood based on the nearest moods.You will now see the Music Square page.

How To Load Music Files On Your Galaxy S4's Music Square
If it's the first time you've used your Music Square, then it will automatically ask you to load available songs on your phone. It will then analyze these songs and assign which song will go to what square. If auto-update does not happen for you, you can manually update it by following the procedures below:
- 1Get to the Music Square tab by going to Home > Applications > Music > Music Square.
- 2When you are on the Music Square page, tap on the Menu button (lower left soft key) to view available options.
- 3Tap on it to start the library update.From the list of options, you can see the "Library Update" option.
- 4Wait for this process to be done.Music Square will now scan for music files on your phone and SD card and will add them to the library.
- 5The loading screen will automatically disappear once the update is done.
- 6You have now successfully updated the music files on your Music Square.
How To Use Music Square On Your Galaxy S4
Now that you have learned how to get to Music Square and how to load files into it, you are ready to use it. Follow the procedures below to use Music Square on your Samsung Galaxy S4:
- 1Get to the Music Square tab by going to Home > Applications icon > Music > Music Square.
- The music quadrant. This contains the 25 mood squares for your Music Square. You can play songs by either tapping on one square or sweeping into multiple squares.
- Tapping on a single square. This will allow you to play all the songs on that specific mood square. Tapping and holding on a single square will show all the songs listed on it.
- Sweeping into multiple squares. This allows you to play all the songs on the highlighted mood squares. Sweeping and holding on the last square will show all the songs listed on the highlighted squares.
- Switch View button. Tapping on this button will switch the viewing mode into the normal viewing mode for the music player, though Music Square is still functioning. Press the Back button once to get back to Music Square view.
- Rewind/Previous song button. Tapping on this button once will play the song again once. Tapping on this button twice will play the previous song played based on the square's list. Tapping and holding on this button will rewind the song; release it to resume playing.
- Play/Pause song button. Tapping on this button while music is playing will pause the song. Tapping on this button while the song is on pause or stop will play the song.
- Fast forward/Next song button. Tapping on this button once will play the next song on the square's list. Tapping and holding on this button will fast forward the music play; release the button to resume playing.
- Help. Tapping on the "Help" button will actually not get you any help. Instead, it will only display a description of the Music square.
- Library Update. Tapping on this option will allow you to manually update your library of songs, and add them to Music Square. This is useful when there are new songs on your phone's memory or on your SD card.
- Change Horizontal Axis. Tapping on this option will allow you to change the horizontal axis labels from the default Passionate and Joyful moods into Old and New classifications.
- Settings. Tapping on this option will allow you to change the settings on your Music player. Take note that changes you do on "Settings" will affect the whole music player settings, not just the Music Square feature.
- End. Tapping on this option will close your Music player, including the Music Square.
How to Change Moods Into New and Old
You can change Passionate and Joyful moods into New and Old. If you prefer this kind of categorization, then follow the procedures below:
- 1Get to the Music Square tab by going to Home > Applications > Music > Music Square.
- 2When you are on the Music Square page, tap on the "Menu" button (lower left soft key) to view available options.
- 3Tap on it to start library update.From the list of options, you can see the "Change Horizontal Axis" option.
- 4This will change the quadrant headers into Exciting, New, Calm, and Old.From the "Change Horizontal Axis" pop-up, tap on the selection for years.
- 5Now you will see that the Music Square horizontal quadrant has been changed into Old and New.
- 6You have now successfully changed the horizontal mood on your Music Square.
How To View The Song List on a Certain Mood Square
You can view the list of songs on a certain square or certain group of squares by following the procedures below:
- 1Get to the Music Square tab by going to Home > Applications > Music > Music Square.
- 2Once you are on the Music Square page, do either of the following:
- If you want to view the list of songs in a single mood square, tap and hold on the selected square and wait until the list of songs will show.
- If you want to view the list of songs in multiple squares, sweep through the selected square and hold on the last one. Wait until the list of songs on the selected squares will show.
- 3You have just learned how to view the song list on your Music Square.
How to Create a Playlist Based On Music Square's Classifications
If you want to have a playlist based on the groupings made by Music Square, then follow the procedures below:
- 1Get to the Music Square tab by going to Home > Applications icon > Music > Music Square.
- 2Once you are on the Music Square page, choose the list of songs that you want to make a playlist of by doing any of the following:
- If you want to view the list of songs in a single mood square, tap and hold on the selected square and wait until the list of songs shows up.
- If you want to view the list of songs in multiple squares, sweep through the selected square and hold on the last one. Wait until the list of songs on the selected squares will show.
- 3From the list of songs, tap on the "Menu" key (lower left soft key) to view available options.
- 4From the list of options, tap on "Add to Playlist" to add these songs to a playlist.
- 5You can manually check each box or tap on the "Select All" box to select all songs. Tap on the "Done" button. Once you have selected your desired songs; you will be taken to the "Add to Playlist"" page.Choose the songs you want to include in the playlist.
- 6For a demonstration, tap on the "Create New Playlist" option.On the "Add to Playlist" page, you will then be allowed to add the songs to an existing playlist or create a new playlist from the selected songs.
- 7The playlist will now be saved.Enter a name for the playlist and tap on "OK".
- 8You can then go to your Playlist tab to see the newly created playlist.
- 9You have just learned how to create a playlist from the song selections on Music Square.
