When the Samsung Galaxy S4 came out, it was one of the world's most powerful phones released to that date, and still has features that will please Samsung music fans. For instance, the Galaxy S4 has the Music Square application built-in. Music Square is Samsung Jellybean's take on auto playlist creation based on the user's music mood. There are four mood quadrants:

In each of these quadrants, are 25 squares containing different levels of the four variants, depending on the square location. All songs are in the 25 squares so if you want to relax you can simply choose a square near the calm quadrant, you can choose other squares should you want other types of music. Instructions
- 1Tap on the "Applications" menu icon which is located on the home screen of your Samsung Galaxy S4.

- 3Scroll to the right upper portion of the music player, and you should see the "Music Square" tab.
- 4Allow your Samsung Galaxy S4's music player to load; it will completely analyze all of your music files.
- 5Simply scroll to the upper portion of Player to highlight the Music Square.When analysis is done, click on any of the squares and start enjoying automatic playlists courtesy of Music Square.

Different ways to Add New Music
- 1Purchase From Google Music -- You can Purchase Music from Google Music and the songs will be downloaded directly to your device.
- 2Add music from PC via USB cable
- Connect your device with the PC using USB cable.
- Select Media Transfer or wait for the PC to choose the best for you.
- Open the device Folder and drag & drop the desired folders or files.
- Make sure to put the Songs in the Music folder located on your device.
- 3Either purchase new music from the Google Play store or import files from your home computer.Acquire new music.
- Importing files with a USB cable. Connect the device with a USB cable from the S4 to a computer then drag and drop files into the S4. (See above section for more details)
- Use a cloud service. Upload the desired files to a cloud storage service then download the files to your Galaxy S4.
- 4Update the media library.
- From the home screen, select "Apps".
- Tap on "Music Player".
- Scroll sideways to find and select the Music Square tab.
- Open the menu with the menu button.
- Select "Library Update".
Where to Store Music
Internal Storage
Any media downloaded or created on your device is automatically saved to internal storage. All songs bought and downloaded from the Play store will be saved in internal storage and can be accessed by Music Square.
Cloud. Online storage such through sites like Dropbox, are an excellent place to backup your media files. The S4 comes with free access to 50GB of storage for two years through Dropbox, if the application came pre-loaded on your phone and your carrier participates in the promotion. Non-participating carriers. United States: AT&T. Japan: NTT DoCoMo.
- 1Redeeming and Using Dropbox.
- Open a new or account or sign into an existing account with your Galaxy S4.
- From the home screen, open "Apps".
- Select "Dropbox".
- Choose "Start" This option will only appear the first time the application is opened.
- Open a new account or log in to an existing account.
- Opening a new account. Enter your first and last name, email, and password into the boxes provided. Select "Register for Dropbox" to continue. Read the terms of service and select "I Agree" when finished.
- Log into an existing account. Simply input your user information and password then log into the application.
- Select "Next". When asked to save photos automatically.
- Choose upload options. Decide between "WiFi only" or "WiFi or data plan" by you, sing the radio button. If you do not want existing media to be automatically uploaded to Dropbox then deselect the "Upload Existing Photos And Videos" option.

- Tap "Share Via".
- Select "Dropbox".
- Enter your password if needed.
- Choose the destination folder.
=External microSD Card
The Galaxy S4 has an external slot for microSD cards. These cards can be up to 64GB in size.
- 1Uploading media to the microSD card from internal storage.
- Open "Apps" from the home screen.
- Tap "My Files".
- Open "All Files".
- Select "Device Storage".
- Select the files for transfer. Check the box to the left of each file that will be transferred.
- Tap "Menu".
- Select "Move" or "Copy". "Move" will remove the file from internal storage to external. "Copy" will duplicate the file to the SD card.
- Tap "SD memory card"
- Go to where you wish to save the files.
- Select "Move here"
Update the Media Library After the Downloading or Copying the Songs
- 1After adding the songs, you need to update the library for the songs to appear.
- 2Open Music Player.
- 3Tap the menu button and select "Library update".
How to Store Songs from any Folder to Music
- 1Open the folder where you have saved the songs.
- 2Press and hold on any song, and when you are prompted to select the songs, select all of them, including any folder.
- 3After selecting, tap the menu button and select "Move" or "Copy".
- 4Go back to the app menu.
- 5Open "My Files" form the menu.
- 6Select "All Files," then "SD card".
- 7Open "Music" tap the option key and paste all the files in it.
- 8If you are copying from a PC, just directly paste all the files in the Music Folder.
Loading Songs or Music from a Cloud Service
- 1Open the cloud service.
- 2Sign in.
- 3Select the upload button.

How to Edit Music Selections

How do I transfer music from Google Play to Music Player on Samsung Galaxy S4?
You can store and listen to your favorite music from Google Play on your Galaxy S4. You can play your music when you are offline or online with just a few steps for each. There are a few ways you can set up your music for offline or online music. Follow this tutorial, and you enjoy unlimited favorite music. Instructions will also be provided below so you can customize the audio on your Galaxy S4. Sorry, but if you are in the Philippines, or a few other countries, presently, you will be unable to use the Google Play Store to purchase music for your Samsung Galaxy S4.
Offline
To enjoy listening to music offline from your Galaxy S4, you can tap the Google Play Music icon. There is a way that you can access your music from your personalized playlist while offline, or you can copy music from your Laptop or PC paired to your Galaxy S4. Note that any music that was played recently can be stored for a short time, or cached in your GS4. Once you have added songs to your music library from the Google Play Music application, you can return to the library and save the selected songs for listening while not on the internet.
- 1To create your own playlist from the Google Play Music app on your Galaxy S4 while offline:
- Go to your "Playlists" or "My Library" to select your songs from collected music in any of the categories: Artists, Songs, Albums, or Playlists.
- Choose the songs that you wish to save.
- Tap the Google Play pin icon to add songs to the download list. The pin icon is appears as a gray angle.
- The gray angle icon will show up next to any song that can be saved as a playback option.
- An orange pin icon will show any music that has been saved in Google Play Music Offline.
- A vertical pin icon will show up next to any choice that is in Google Play Cached that is on your download queue list.
- 2Another way that you can save music is by choosing "Menu", then "Keep on Device on Songs, Playlists, and Albums" that you desire on the list.
- The music downloading will bring up the "pin icon" for each song to indicate that it is downloaded to your download queue. To see all of your music on your download queue, go to Menu > Settings > View download queue on the Google Play Music.
- 3Its color will change to gray to show that the music selection is off the list for playing offline.To delete saved songs, simply go to your music library, and then tap the "orange pin icon".
- 4If you have any songs that you bought from the Google Play Store, and an error message pops up, click it again, and it will download.
Online
To download music online (be certain that are connected with WiFi) to your Samsung Galaxy S4 from the Google Play Store:
- 1Select "Music".
- 2At the upper left, tap the "My Music" tab.
- 3In the "Google Play" menu, choose "Playlist".
- 4Scroll down to "Free and Purchased Playlist" and tap it.
- 5It will turn orange once your downloading has begun.At the right side of "Google Play", just beneath the "Playlist" icon, there is a small circle with an inscribed gray pin icon.
Play Songs on Your Galaxy S4

- Tap any audio file in Music or Clips, to bring up "Notifications/Ringtones". This way you do not have to copy music to designated folders.
- In other words, this will not show up as a Samsung app, but when you wish to change a "Ringtone/Notification", the "Rings Extended" will appear.
- Tap "Rings Extended" to open the app to select the "Ringtone/Notification".

- 2You can also tap "Download free and purchased" to download music that you have bought from "Google Play".Tap the "Download My Library" to download music.
- 3Since we all have a unique range of sound frequencies that we can hear, and unique "taste" for the level of bass and treble we enjoy, the GS4 can be set to customize your music levels.Adjust the Galaxy S4 audio for music:
- This audio setting can also be used to automatically adjust phone call voices to your personal hearing levels.
- Tap the "Call Button".
- Tap "Menu" and then "Settings".
- Scroll until you find "Personalize Call Sound".
- Choose "Adapt Sound".

Questions and Answers
Samsung music playlist is empty even though I have a song?
When you have recently added some songs to your device or to your memory card, the Samsung music player will not recognize the newly added music files yet. You need to manually perform a refresh on the application to be able see the newly-added songs. To do that, follow the procedures below:
- Go to your Home screen by either pressing on the Home button once or pressing the Back key until it takes you to the Home screen.
- Tap on the Apps icon containing the list of applications on your Galaxy S4.
- From the list of applications, look for Music Player (or Music) and tap on it to open the application.
- Tap on any of the tabs: Songs, Playlists, Album, Artists, and Folders. This will automatically refresh your music files.
- Now check on your music player to see the added music files to it.
- Note: Some music files are hidden or the file extension has changed. This may or may not be caused by a virus. A quick scan of your memory card using your computer should fix the problem.
If you notice an empty playlist, it's because you haven't been adding any songs to the playlist. Press the menu button in your playlist and press the "Add to Playlist" option so that you can add your songs to the playlist.
Once I download the songs to my device, where are they on Galaxy S4?
When you download a music file or songs to your Galaxy S4, or to any Galaxy phone or that matter, the application used in downloading will determine where it saves the files. Normally these applications will either save the songs to their respective folder or save these songs automatically to the Music folder. You can usually change the default storage on the Settings menu of your Galaxy Note3.
You can see the downloaded files in the application menu > then look for downloads. If you can't see it, simply go to my files or file manager and look for the folder that is named "downloads".
Why are only certain songs showing up for Music Square?
The music files you may be referring to might be unsupported, or does not have the right extension on them. If the files are newly transferred to the phone or the internal memory, you need to go to your Music Application, tap on the Menu key on the lower-left soft key on your phone. Choose library update to update songs on the internal memory or memory card.
The other songs you have may not be in the correct format to be detected by your device. Ensure all songs you put onto your phone are mp3 files. That will make them work on almost all devices.
Music Square does not analyse my music files?
If Music Square does not analyse your music files, try to restart your device and perform the following:
- Make sure that you have your device's OS version updated.
- To update go to: Home Screen > Tap on the Menu key > Tap Settings > More Tab > About Device > Software Update > Tap on Update option to check for updates.
- Perform a manual refresh of your music files.
- Transfer the music files to your SD card. For some reasons, this trick works on phones having problems loading Music Square songs.
- Transfer music files from your phone's internal memory to the SD card. You can use any file explorer for this procedure. You can check on this article on how to Transfer Files from Galaxy S4's Internal Memory to a Micro Sd Card.
- Once transferred, turn off your device and remove the memory card.
- Reboot your phone and wait for it to completely turn on.
- Once turned on, insert your microSD card.
- Manually update your library. Your music files should now be analyzed.
To fix this problem, please do the following.
- Open Music player.
- Go to Music square tab.
- Touch the "Menu" button.
- Select "Library update".
- That's it.
I purchased music on my S4 using play store and I want to transfer music to my Laptop?
But I cannot see the music I purchased anywhere on Kies
You do not need to use Kies to download the music you purchased.
- Just log in to your Google music account on your LaptopHERE.
- Once logged in, click on the "Free and Purchased" option on the left hand side menu: HERE.
- Hover your mouse over the song you'd like to download and hit the 3 vertical dots menu to download.
