Edited by Jerry Rivers, Lynn, Eng
You use that computer mouse constantly, and easily maneuver around on the monitor screen effortlessly while you bring up websites, play video games, perform word processing, and conveniently use it for myriad functions. Follow the instructions below, and discover new uses of the many hidden powers of your PC mouse, too. You will be empowered with many new click and scroll tricks by following this tutorial.
- 1PC Mouse scrolling powers unveiled - That handy scroll wheel at the top center of your mouse conveniently scrolls up and down a website, but it has several more powers unveiled here when you use it in conjunction with the "Shift" or "Ctrl" keys:
- You can scroll sideways on Excel - To easily move along a large Excel spreadsheet just press and hold the "Shift" button while turning the mouse scroll wheel.
- Use the scroll wheel as a "Back" button - Hold the "Shift" key while scrolling the scroll wheel, and it becomes a "Back" button. In other words, it will take you to previous webpages like your "back-browser" arrow. Check to see, also, if you have small buttons at the sides of your mouse. If so, the one on the left side acts as a "Back" button, and the one on the right side acts as a "Forward" button.
- Zoom in and out using the scroll wheel - Press the "Ctrl" key while turning the scroll wheel for zooming in and out of a webpage. Simply scrolling up while holding the "Ctrl" key zooms in, and scrolling down will zoom out on the webpage. If you are using a Mac computer, this maneuver will zoom in and out the webpage and can even move you completely in and out of the entire screen.
- 2Below are mouse powers for you if you are a Windows OS user:For your eyes only, Windows user - The above mouse scroll wheel-key combos work for Windows and Mac both.
- To maximize a page - Press the left click and drag the title bar to the top of the page.
- To minimize a page - Just quickly move your mouse up and down at the title bar. In other words, you "shake" it. To then restore the page, click the title bar again.
- For a half-and-half split screen - First, drag the title bar of the first page to the left edge of the screen. Next, drag the second page to the right edge. It will instantly create a split-screen view of both documents.
- To prevent an automatic "log-out" - If you leave a website logged in and walk away, to prevent it from logging you out while away, just set your mouse on top of an analog watch with a second hand. The constant motion of the second hand fools your Laptop or PC into sensing that you are still at the current website. It will prevent the computer from automatically logging you out from the website.
- Highlight selections - Double clicking highlights the word where you have your mouse cursor. Triple clicking highlights the entire paragraph. You may know these tricks, but what if you want to highlight only a selected column without any content at its sides? Hold the "Alt" key while holding the left-click button of your mouse. If you are using a Mac OS, hold the "Option" key and left-click mouse button together. Now, drag the mouse cursor on the column that you wish to highlight and select. The column text should also automatically change to the format setting at your Word page.
These are all powers of your PC mouse unveiled for you to easily use with internet websites and your documents. Please, feel free to add more "hidden" powers of a computer mouse for others to use.
