Use Direct S Pen Input for a Samsung Note 10.1

You're watching VisiHow. In this video tutorial, we are going to review "Direct pen input" with the S Pen on the Samsung Note 10.1 (2014 Edition).
Steps

We tap and swipe down the screen from the top of the home screen

We will be able to access the notification panel.

In the top right-hand corner, we will find a gear- or wheel-shaped icon

The icon stands for Settings. We tap it once to access Settings.

Once in Settings, we need to tap on "Controls"

We are looking for "S Pen" in the left-hand panel.

We will see different S Pen settings. In the "General" menu of "S Pen", the third option is "Direct pen input". When it is turned on, it will "Display the handwriting pad on the text input area when the S Pen is detected."

We turn "Direct pen input" on by tapping the toggle next to it

Let us remove the S Pen from its holder

We hold the device and find the slot in the top right-hand corner. We remove the S Pen.

We tap "Direct pen input"

The menu will read: "To use the handwriting pad, hover the S Pen over the text input area, then tap the button indicated".

The new screen will inform us: "Hover the S Pen over the screen to use Direct pen input." We write with the S Pen.

We tap "Done" when we have finished writing

The tutorial will be completed. Every time we have the input text area, we will be able to use the S Pen rather than the keyboard.

To turn off "Direct pen input", we simply tap the switch in the top right-hand corner

We put the S Pen back into the slot
