Edited by Train Wreck, VisiHow, Eng, Doug Collins
This is a tutorial on how to update the Tizen OS on your Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 smart watch. Updating your new watch is important, as there may be security vulnerabilities you need to patch, or usability features that have been added. In the article below, we discuss updating your Galaxy Gear from a Samsung Galaxy S6. However, you can update your Galaxy Gear from any Android phone, and later, even from your iPhone or Windows phone.
Update Your Galaxy Gear S2
In order to update your Galaxy Gear you will need to access the Galaxy Gear plugin and take the following steps:
Locate the orange Galaxy Gear icon on your Samsung Galaxy S6 smart phone
Once you have located this icon, tap on it once.
This will open up the Galaxy Gear control panel.
Scroll down to settings and you will tap one time on settings.
After tapping on 'Settings', you will scroll down to the 'About Gear' option shown under 'System'.
Tap once on 'About Gear'
This will open the 'About Gear' panel.
Tap on 'Update Gear software'
After tapping on the update Gear software you will have the option to auto check for updates and to tap on update now.
After a moment your Gear application should download the update.
To install the new updates to your Gear smartwatch, press 'INSTALL'.
You will see that the Gear will be updating software, as indicated on your smart phone.
When done, tap 'OK' to proceed
You'll receive a message on your Gear that it will restart.
Once the Galaxy Gear restarts, you will see an update progress bar or progress meter showing you that the Gear is updating software.
Do note that the update progress can take up to five minutes
There is nothing you can do to speed this process up. In fact, if you have a great many applications on your Gear S2 smartwatch, it could take even longer. Simply be patient and wait for your smartwatch to update.
Once your Galaxy Gear reaches 100% updated, it will restart
You will know that this restart is different than normal restarts, because of the blue line moving in a circular clockwise manner around the face of your watch.
Once the update is complete, you will see an orange notification dot on the left side of your watch face indicating that it has been updated.
Your Galaxy S6 smartphone or other phone will have switched back to the 'Settings' panel in the Gear apps as well.
You have successfully updated your Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 to the latest version.
