Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video we are going to show you how to turn on and off the option to merge Google Chrome tabs with the active apps section on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on the top of the phone
.
2
Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen
.
To unlock the phone swipe the screen upwards.
3
Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen
.
At the bottom we will see some icons.
4
What we want to show first is the active apps section
.
That is because in this section we can see all of the applications that are currently open on the HTC One M8. We can also see all of the different Google Chrome tabs that are open. We can see all of the different web pages and apps that are open in one place. We can see those by pressing the icon at the bottom of the home screen on the right-hand side. It is a white frame.
5
Press down on this icon and it will open up the active apps section
.
6
In this section we can see all of the Google Chrome tabs that are open
.
We can see all of the active apps that are activated and are open right now. This is because the option is turned on. However, we can turn this option off. We can separate these two sections, the Google Chrome tabs and the active apps. To do that we need to press the Back arrow in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
7
Now, we're back on the home screen
.
We need the icon located at the bottom of the home screen. In the middle we can see that there is a grid made of white dots.
8
Press down on this icon and it will open up our "Apps" folder
.
9
In this folder we need to find the Google Chrome application
.
We can see the Google Chrome icon which is a big circle made up of different colors. Underneath, it says the word "Chrome". The Google Chrome application may be in a different position in this folder. Therefore, we'll need to find it.
10
Once we've found the Google Chrome icon, press down on it to enter the application
.
11
We now need to use the icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
It consists of three small black dots in a vertical line.
12
Press down on this icon and it will open up our menu
.
13
We now want the "Settings" option
.
14
Press down on the word "Settings"
.
The second option in this area says, "Merge tabs and apps". This option is currently activated. We can see it says the word "On". As we saw in that section earlier, we can see both the Google Chrome tabs and the active applications.
15
To separate these, press down on this section
.
We can see it says the word "On" in the upper left corner, and the switch icon on the right is blue.
16
If we press down on the switch, it's going to turn it off
.
A message appears that says, "Separate tabs and apps" and "Tabs will move to a tab switcher inside Chrome". Now if we want to see the different tabs, there will be a specific button or icon for this within the Google Chrome application.
17
If we want to continue, we'll press down on the word "OK"
.
When we do that it's going to take us out of the application and then back in.
18
Now, we can see that there is an icon at the top of the screen
.
It is a box with a number "1" inside. That's because we only have one tab open currently.
19
We can add more tabs by pressing down on the icon with three dots in a vertical line located in the top right-hand corner
.
20
On the menu that appears, we can tap to create a "New tab"
.
21
Let's do that by entering an address in the "Search or type URL" box
.
22
We can go to BBC by typing it in on the keypad
.
23
Now, we can see that it says the number "2" in the box at the top right corner because there are two tabs open
.
24
If we press down on the box, we can then scroll through all the different tabs
.
25
If we want to turn this option off, we'll just repeat the process
.
Press down on the three dots in a vertical line.
26
Scroll down and press to open the "Settings" menu
.
27
Go to the option that says "Merge tabs and apps"
.
28
Then we can turn this option back on if we want or need to
.
29
This concludes our tutorial on how to turn on and off the option to merge Google Chrome tabs with the active applications section on an HTC One M8
.
