Edited by Thor, JellyBean, Jen M
Hello, and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how you can turn on or off the option to show the arrow keys in the portrait keyboard of an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, let's turn the phone on by pressing the Power button, located on top of the phone
.
2
Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen
.
3
To unlock the phone, press down on the screen, holding down until the lock/unlock icon is displayed, then swipe up
.
4
When the phone is unlocked, we'll see the Home screen and some icons at the bottom
.
We'll look at the keyboard quickly in order to see that there are arrow keys at the bottom. Do this by pressing the Message icon on the Home screen, which is a speech box with three horizontal green lines inside. Press down on this icon to open up our Messages.
5
Press down on any chat or any message we have
.
6
When the message is open press "Add text", at the bottom
.
7
There will now be arrows at the bottom of the keyboard
.
8
We have the option to take the arrows away or leave them there, or to put them there if they aren't there already
.
We'll press the back arrow to go back, which is a white "V", at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
9
Press back on the curved arrow at the bottom
.
10
Press back again on the curved arrow
.
11
When we get to the Home screen, we want to find the Settings menu
.
Press down and the top of the screen and hold down, then swipe down and this will open up the Notification panel.
12
We can see that there is a white cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
Press down on that icon.
13
This will open up our Settings menu, which will say "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen
.
14
Let's scroll down, until we get to the "PHONE" section, which will say the word "PHONE" in the gray bar
.
15
If we scroll down even further, we will find the "Language & keyboard" section
.
Next to that will be an icon with a capital "A" inside a 3-D box.
16
Pressing down on the "Language & keyboard" section will open up some menus
.
We are looking for the option that says, "HTC Sense Input" with "Keyboard options" underneath.
17
Press down on this section, and we have another menu, where we are looking for "Arrow keys", "Show arrow keys on portrait keyboard"
.
These options are currently activated, just like earlier when we looked at the keyboard. We can see that there is a green box with a white check inside, meaning that the option is activated. We can turn this on or off, depending on how much we use those arrows.
18
Press down on the box to remove the check, and the box will be empty, meaning the option is deactivated
.
19
Press down on the option to put the check back in the box and activate it again
.
20
We want to deactivate it now by pressing down on the box to see the keyboard once more where we can see that the arrows have disappeared
.
21
Let's go back by pressing the Home screen icon which appears as white house at the bottom of the screen
.
Press down on that icon.
22
Press down on the Message icon again
.
23
Find a chat again and press down on it
.
24
25
We can see at the bottom of the screen that the arrows have disappeared
.
We can turn this option back on by simply following the same procedure as we have demonstrated in this video.
26
This then, concludes our tutorial on how to turn on or off the option to show arrow keys on the portrait keyboard of an HTC One M8
.
