Turn On and Setup HTC One M8 for the First Time

You are watching VisiHow and today, we are going to show you how to get your HTC One M8 powered on and setup for the very first time.
Steps

Press the power button at the top to turn the phone on

The power button is located at the top right corner of the phone.

The phone will vibrate and open to a lock screen with many notifications but will automatically move to a setup screen
.

Press the "English" button to change languages

Tap on the language of your choice and press "OK"

There is an "Emergency" call option and a "START" option at the bottom of the screen once the language has been selected
.
Press on "START" to continue with the setup.

The first option is "Mobile Network" which uses Mobile Network for internet if WiFi is unavailable

The next option is WiFi Network; press on the WiFi Network of your choice
.

The WiFi Network will then ask for a password so type it in and press "CONNECT"

Tap on "Show password" to see what you are typing.

Once the WiFi is connected, tap on "NEXT" to continue with the setup

The phone will ask you to turn on Mobile Data; tap on "OK" to turn it on

Press "CANCEL" to leave it off.

The next screen will ask you to make or login with a Google account

Press "Yes" to login and "No" to create an account.

Type in your Google account ID and password and press on the right arrow

You will get a warning saying that by signing in, you are agreeing to the Google Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

Press "OK" to continue with the setup.

Once the phone has signed you in, you will be given a list of options to be checked or unchecked depending on your preference

The options include backup/restore, location, and communication. Backup allows the phone to backup data to your Google account and location services allows applications to access your location and provide you with better service. The second check box under location allows the phone to scan for WiFi networks even when WiFi is off, for improved accuracy and other purposes. The final option is communication which sends you emails about news and offers from Google Play store if checked.

Press the right arrow to continue with the setup

Press "Add credit or debit card" to setup your payment information

Press on "NOT NOW" to skip this.

Press on "Remind me later" to skip registration or press "Sign in with Google" to sign up for an HTC account

The HTC account offers you many features such as "Advanced content backup and restore features" and "No charge 50GB Google Drive storage".

Press "Next" to continue the setup

The HTC setup screen will open; press "skip" followed by "NEXT" to continue the initial setup

This sets up the various services such as email, wallpapers and ringtones. You can choose to set up now or do it another time. Since this is not the part of the initial setup, it is not mandatory.

Transfer and restore allows you to transfer files from another device to your new HTC

Since this is not the part of the initial setup, it is also not mandatory. Press "Skip" followed by "NEXT" to continue with the initial setup.

On the next screen, press on any application to add an account and press "NEXT" when finished

This can be modified after the setup.

Change the phone name to your preference and change your phone security preferences on this screen

Press on "NEXT" to continue with your initial setup once finished. Both of these can be changed at a later time.

Choose "Back up phone daily" to back up the phone's data onto Google Drive daily

Press "NEXT" without changing anything to disable backup.

Press the checkbox to send anonymous data to HTC to help make it better

Keep it unchecked to not send data.

Press "FINISH" to end the setup
