We'll begin by opening the Messenger application

If there is no Messenger icon on the home screen, we can still access the application through our "Apps" menu.

For now, let's open Messenger by tapping the blue chat bubble icon one time

If we want to mute notifications for a single conversation, tap and hold down that conversation until a pop-up menu appears

About halfway through the list of options, we find and tap "Mute notifications"

A new window will open with "Mute notifications for this conversation" at the top. We have a list of times.

Let's choose the last option, "Until I turn it back on", by tapping it once

We can see that now there is a muted volume icon on the right side of this conversation, letting us know that this conversation has been muted and we will not receive notifications for it.
