Edited by Timbuktu, Charmed, Rich, Lynn and 14 others

Do you like to travel? Or maybe you just simply travel a lot because you need it for your work or any other activities. If you want to stay connected using the same number wherever you are then all you have to do is turn on or enable the data roaming of your mobile. If you have a Samsung Galaxy S3 then in this article we will show you how you can enable the roaming for your mobile.

Where will data roaming be applied? Certain countries or areas?

Anytime you take a mobile device outside of the registered service area, or home network, and into visited network, it is considered to be roaming. Roaming allows a device to stay connected to the data network without losing connectivity when out of range of the home network. Networks can be regional or restricted to countries depending on where you live. For example, an American traveling within the European Union is very far outside the home network and will be roaming while visiting Europe.

Does it cost extra to use data roaming?

Any data used through the visited networks will be charged to the user at a higher rate based on the fees associated with visited cellular networks. The fees associated with roaming will be described within the roaming agreement of your device contract. Each service provider has their own fees and tariffs based on region and geography of the home and visited network. Check with your service provider to learn the exact costs of roaming data with your device.

How to Know When Data Roaming is Turned On or Not

Your phone will roam to connect to another network provider when abroad. This is because you are outside your usual network coverage area. When Data roaming option is on, you will receive calls, texts, emails, updates and push notifications no matter where you are. The catch, however, is that you will incur substantial charges from your provider for roaming to another network.

On the other hand, if your data roaming is off, you will not receive notifications, emails, calls and updates or access the internet. Therefore, you will incur zero charges.

Questions and Answers

Hi. we are on vacation in Florida. trying to send Gmail on my Samsung g3 but it just stays in sending mode?

Do I have to change configuration to successfully send a Gmail message, when away from home??

You do not need to change the configuration because it should be able to work the same in any country. However, the most common reason for this kind of problem is poor internet connection. The internet signal is not strong enough to be able to finish transmitting the message. You would have to restart your computer to try refreshing the signal. If it's still the same, you have to consider hooking to another network which is stronger.

I have a new Galaxy 3. I am not able to access the internet for searches, Google maps, etc. when I am not at home or work on my wireless internet. Is this called "roaming" when I want internet other than these 2 places?

If so, how do I turn it on? Other websites tell me to go to settings, more networks, then press the roaming button. However, I do not have a roaming button on this screen nor any other screen. Any advice?

Verizon cut off my data while I was on a trip to China. I need to know how to re-enable data roaming. No love from Verizon *611 support line?

My data was cut off by Verizon while on a trip. I hit the max roaming data usage.. Now I need to turn it back on, but can't find out how.. My settings are correct, but Verizon has me cut off.. Having trouble contacting them about this.. Any suggestions?. I have tried: Checking my settings - they are correct for data roaming, mobile networks, advanced calling, data usage. All correct. Called *611 Verizon support - this is an automated call support line, there isn't an option to turn data back on after it's been cut off.. I think it was caused by: Verizon cut off my data after I reached the limit for global roaming (0 they cut you off). I can get messages & mail, but can't surf the web because my data is cut off. It's an account management issue with Verizon, but I can't get through to them. So I guess the problem is that they don't have individual support.
