You're watching VisiHow. This is a video tutorial series on singing. In the previous tutorial, we discussed how to form a correct standing posture for singing. In this tutorial, we're going to teach you how to sing falsetto and in full voice.
Steps
- 1Falsetto is actually more of a false voice, as it is a voice that is above the normal register of our voice. For example, if you are a baritone, you only have a range of about 1.5-2 octaves (for example, F2-F4). Anything higher than the highest note you can produce (in our example, F4), which is in the comfortable singing range, is called falsetto. The main difference between falsetto and full voice is the quality of voice being produced.
- 2It does not, however, produce the same high-quality sound or impact that a normal and full voices produce. Remember to use your diaphragm correctly and to use your diaphragm to breathe. Using proper breathing, we can use both full voice and falsetto. To ensure that you are practicing while breathing properly, place your hands on your oblique muscles. The oblique muscles are located slightly in front of your kidneys. Apply gentle pressure to the muscles. Proper placement of your hands will allow you to feel your diaphragm expanding as you breathe. Make sure that you hold your breath by tightening your abdominal muscles. Do not forget how to use your diaphragm, nose, and mouth to breathe. We will sing do, re, mi, fa, sol, fa, mi, re, and do in the normal range and in a falsetto to give you an idea of the difference between the full voice and falsetto in regard to sound and quality of voice.Falsetto uses the support of the diaphragm and proper breathing techniques to form a foundation for the voice.
- 3The falsetto range is not as comfortable, and we are less able to control the quality of sound when singing outside of the register. A falsetto voice will always be airy. It will not give the same impact or quality of sound as full voice. The full voice uses a comfortable range for singing.
