Sims 4 PC Cheats and How to Use Them
Edited by Kathy McGraw, Eng, Alma
Is cheating possible in the Sims 4? Of course, it is: it's a sims game! From the early days of the Sims franchise in 2000, players have always been able to cheat up things such as money and their sims' motives and skills, and that hasn't changed in the 4th iteration of the popular people simulator.
Whether you want so build your sims the snazziest and most posh houses in the neighborhood, or max their skills without having to raise them through game play, or you want to make your sim friends with every other sim in the world, you can by just entering a few codes into the game's console.
Cheating Basics
In this section, we'll cover the console and how to enable the testing cheats, which is necessary for many of the cheat codes we cover to work.
The Console
The console is where the cheat codes get inputted. When open, it appears as a thin white rectangular box in the upper left corner of your game screen.
- 1On your keyboard, press Ctrl+shift+c at the same time.Opening the console.
- 2On your keyboard press Ctrl+shift+c at the same time again.Closing the console.
Enabling the Testing Cheats
The testing cheats are codes that the developers use while testing the game to make sure everything works as intended. They are disabled by default. To enable them, enter the following into the console:
- 1Note that there is no space between the words testing and cheats. This code is not case-sensitive.Testing cheats on/off (also true, yes, or 1).
- 2Be aware that the testing cheats must be re enabled every time you load the game, travel to another world, or load another lot.
Money Cheats
Whether you want to buy your sims the most expensive objects in the game or build them the largest and most ostentatious mansion in the game, you don't have to wait for your little people to earn money. You can just enter a few simple cheat codes, and voila, your sims are instantly wealthy. Wouldn't be awesome if we could do that in real life? Anyway, here's how you cheat up money in the Sims 4:
- 1Kaching and rosebud give you 1,000 simoleons at a time. Either word will work; those of you who played the original game will recognize rosebud. You can use it multiple times. For instance, typing kaching and pressing enter five times will net your sims 5,000 simoleons.Kaching and rosebud.
- 2Motherlode gives you 50,000 simoleons at a time. Like kaching and rosebud, you can enter it multiple times to rapidly expand your sims' coffers.Motherlode.
- 3The number is the amount of simoleons you want to give the household. For instance inputting money 300000 will give your sims exactly 300,000 simoleons. It will NOT add to your sim's existing funds.Money [number].
- 4Like the money cheat, the number here is the amount of money you want to give or take away from your sim's household. Unlike the money cheat, it will add or subtract funds from your sim's household.Sims.modify_funds[number].
- Adding funds: sims.modify_funds 2000 adds 2,000 simoleons
- Subtracting funds: sims.modify_funds -2000 subtracts 2,000 simoleons
Pregnancy Cheats
Like the Sims 2 and 3, your lady sims can get pregnant in Sims 4 and give birth to cute little sim-babies. (If you have the Get to Work expansion, your male sims can also get pregnant if abducted by aliens.) While there aren't any mods that allow you to impregnate your sims without engaging in..err...activities, you can force your sims to have twins, triplets, quads, or septuplets, for that matter. You can also speed up the pregnancy if you don't want to wait for three sim-days for your burgeoning mother-to-be to give birth.
- 1Enter sims.get_sim_id_by_name [simfirstname]{simlastname],where simfirstname and simlastname are the target sim's first and last names. To use the multiple births cheat, you need to get your sims sim ID first.
Relationship Cheats
Do you want to make your sims friends with the whole world? Want to speed up the romance between your sim and her beau? The following codes will let you do that and much more:
- 1Increases or decreases how much two sims like or hate each other or if in a romantic relationship, love each other. The number is any positive or negative value between 1 and 100 and reltype is friendship_main or Romance_mainModifyrelationship [sim1First] [Sim1Last] [Sim2First] [Sim2Last] [number] [Reltype].
- 2This cheat makes all sims currently in-world friends with your active sim.Relationship.make_all_sims_friends.
- 3This cheat introduces your sims to all sims in the world.Relationship.introduce_sim_to_all_others.
- 4Note that to use this cheat, you first need to obtain the sim IDs of the sims you want to modify: sims.get_sim_id_by_name [simfirstname]{simlastname], where simfirstname and simlastname are the target sim's first and last names.Relationship.destroy [sim1ID] [sim2simID] If you want to be nasty, you can destroy the relationship between two sims.
- 5This code adds a particular relationship type between two sims. For instance, if you want to make one sim the grandparent of another sim, you would use this cheat. RelationshipBit is any of the following:Relationship.add_bit [sim1simID] [sim2simID] [relationshipBit].
- Romantic-Married
- Family_husband_wife
- Family_grandchild
- Family_son_daughter
- Family_brother_sister
- Family_grandparent
- Family_parent
Sim Motive Cheats
Sim motive cheats adjust your sim's needs either as a group or individually. Motive cheats are useful for quickly making your sims happy and preventing motive failure, which in the case of hunger, can cause your sims to die. That is, if you want to keep your sims alive. You do want to keep your little people alive, don't you?
These cheats require that testing cheats be enabled: testingcheats on
- 1Shift-click on your sim and choose "cheat need," then "make happy" from the menu.Make an individual sim happy.
- 2Shift-click on the mailbox of your current lot and choose "alter needs," from the menu, then select either:Make all the sims in your household, or the entire world happy.
- Fill Needs (world). Makes all the sims in the world happy.
- Fill Needs (Household). Makes all the sims in the current household happy.
- 3This cheat lets you adjust the active sim's needs individually. Example: fillmotive motive_energy fills the active sim's energy motive.Fillmotive [MotiveType].
Aging Cheats
There are two ways to adjust your sim's ages: one is to use a cheat code, and the other is to bring your sims into Create-A-Sim. The cheat code only allows you to adjust your sim's age to the next stage up while taking them into Create-A-Sim will let you change their age up or down.
- 1Select the sim you want to age up and type this code into the console.Sims.age_up.
- 2This requires you to get your target sim's sims ID with sims.get_sim_id_by_name [simfirstname]{simlastname], where simfirstname and simlastname are the target sim's first and last names.Sims.age_up [simID].
- 3Shift-click on your sim and choose "modify in CAS" from the menu. You will be taken into Create-A-Sim where you can adjust his age up or downAdjust age in Create-A-Sim.
Unlocking All Objects
For some reason, the developers decided to lock some objects behind certain skill requirements. What? Skill requirements? In a Sims game? Well, at least they included a cheat to let those of us who enjoy sandbox play a cheat to remove this stupidity: bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement. Say that three times fast.
Cheats Not Working?
If you ever have an issue with getting the cheats to work, do the following
- 1Some cheats require this. Remember that you have to re-enable testing cheats whenever you boot up a new game, travel to another world, or load a new lot.Make sure that testing cheats are turned on.
- 2For some reason, EA made the cheat codes long and convoluted. While they aren't case-sensitive, many of them include underscores; missing one causes the whole code to fail.Make sure that you are typing the code correctly.
Mods to Make Cheating Easier
The following are mods that I use in my game. They do things such as let you adjust your sims' needs right from the needs panel remove the need to re-enable the testing cheats every time you load up a new game. They are must-haves, in my opinion, for frustration-free simming.
- 1There is no need to remember long cheat codes. A simple click or right-click inside your sim's' needs or skills panel is all that is required. This mod, UI Cheats Extension by weerbesu, lets you adjust your sims' needs, skills, and aspiration directly from the user interface.
- 2For example, the original code for unlocking all objects is bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement [true/false]. This mod turns that monstrosity into you, unl, or unlock [y/n]This mod, More Cheat Shortcuts by darkhorus, shortens all of those incredibly long cheat codes into easily rememberable short ones.
- 3This mod, Persistent TestingCheats by TwistedMexi, turns testing cheats on by default, so you don't have to worry about turning them on every time you boot up your game or travel to another lot or world.
- 4A companion mod CAS FullEditMode Always On by TwistedMexi, to the one above, this mod turns full edit mode on by default.
