Sharpen Edges of Video in Photoshop CS6

You're watching VisiHow. In this video, I'm going to show you how you can sharpen and sharpen edges in a video clip in Photoshop CS6 in Windows 7. As you can see, I've already opened Photoshop CS6 and imported a video. I have my layers on the right-hand side, and my timeline at the bottom.

Steps

    Make sure to select the layer that needs work

    Click on the appropriate layer on the right-hand side.

    Convert the layer to a smart object
    .
    This basically just flattens the layer for us, so we can treat it as an image, rather than lots of individual images, like a video would normally be. We can do this by clicking "Layer" in the top navigation bar. Click "Smart Objects" and then click "Convert to Smart Object".

    Click "Sharpen" in the menu that appears upon hovering
    .
    A very subtle difference can be seen on the canvas. There are no options or settings to adjust. This is good if we just want to gradually build up a sharpen effect. However, we wouldn't recommend it for creating a dramatic effect. For that, it's better to use something like the smart sharpen tool.

    Step backwards

    We will press Ctrl + Alt + Z on our keyboard to do this.

    Click "Sharpen Edges"
    .
    We can't see much difference on our video yet, but if we were to play it, it would be noticeable. Sharpen edges basically takes the general edges, for example, around one of our trees, and sharpens those. It does not sharpen the content inside. It can have a nice, almost soft focus effect, depending on what we're working with.

    Navigate over to the layers list on the right-hand side
    .
    We can hide these filters if we like.

    Click on the little eye icon next to a filter
    .
    It will disappear. This means it is no longer visible. Alternatively, step backwards by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Z to revert the canvas to how it was.
