Steps

  1. 1
To begin, we need to have a document opened by either creating a new one or opening an existing one
    .
This has been done in the video.

At the right-hand side, we make sure that we've selected the layer with which we will be working
    .
There is only one layer in this tutorial.

We move the cursor to "Sharpen"
    .
There are the "Sharpen", "Sharpen Edges", and "Sharpen More" options. Those are general filters that will not let us adjust anything specifically. However, "Smart Sharpen..." and "Unsharp Mask..." let us choose more specific details, including the areas we want to sharpen, the radius size, and so on. There are other VisiHow videos on how to apply these effects.

We click "Sharpen Edges" to see the difference
    .
The filter does not let us toggle anything, and it just automatically applies itself to the layer.

We click "Filter", move the cursor to "Sharpen", and click "Sharpen Edges" again
    .
We will see that the filter makes a very subtle difference to the image. It might be just enough to bring the image to life a little. It is not recommended to be applied if we need to do something quite specific. The filter does not allow that.
