Setup and Receive Data Usage Alerts on HTC One M8

Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to receive alerts about data usage on an HTC One M8.
Steps
- 1To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on top of the phone.
- 2Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen.
- 3Then swipe up.To unlock the phone, press down on the screen and hold down until the two lock icons appear at the bottom.
- 4We now need to find the Settings menu, and to do that, we need to swipe the Notification panel down.Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen, and at the bottom of the screen we will see several icons.
- 5To open the Notification panel, press down at the top of the screen, hold down, then swipe down.
- 6Now, we can see that the Notification panel has appeared.
- 7It is a white cog icon. This is our Settings icon.We are looking for the icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- 8Press down on this icon to open the "Settings" menu.
- 9We can now see that it has the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
- 10We want to be in the first section of the "Settings" menu, as indicated by the words "WIRELESS & NETWORKS" in the gray bar.
- 11Next to this word there is an icon with three gray dots in a row. Underneath the word "More", it says "Data usage, HTC Mini+, NFC..."In this section, scroll down a little bit to the word "More", which is located at the bottom of the section.
- 12Press down on this section, and it will open up our options.
- 13We want the first option at the top that says "Data usage", so press down on that.
- 14Now, we can see the "Data usage" menu and options.
- 15It says, "Limit mobile data usage", and the box on the right is green with a checkmark inside it. This function must be activated in order to receive alerts about data usage. To learn how to activate it, search for a video on this website for a tutorial on how to do that.In order to receive alerts about data usage, we need to make sure that the first option is activated.
- 16We have set this earlier. Right now, we can see the gray line, and just to the left of it it says, "4.6GB LIMIT". This is the data usage limit that we have set. What we want to do now is to receive an alert when we are close to this limit. This alert will tell us when we are close, so we know we need to change our behavior. We may need to not use internet so much and save that space for emergencies or more important things. Then we won't use all of our data usage without knowing about it.In the table further down on that menu, we can see there is a data usage limit that has been set.
- 17To turn this function on we have the third option on the menu, and it says, "Alert me about data usage".
- 18This will make the box green and add a checkmark to it.Press down on the box on the right side of the screen across from that option.
- 19It says, "Data usage alert - Your phone will alert you when your mobile data usage reaches the amount you selected."It will also bring up a message.
- 20Press "OK".
- 21Therefore, this option is activated.We can see now that the box is green, and the checkmark has been added.
- 22It is a line with a little green dot on the end. This is our alert, and currently it is set to 2.8GB. This is what our alert is set to. What that means is when we have used 2.8 Gigabytes of our data usage limit, which is 4.7 total, then we will receive an alert about it. We can edit and customize when we receive this alert, and at what point on the table, depending on how much data usage we want to use before we are alerted.If we scroll down to the table again, we can now see that there is a new line.
- 23To customize this, press down on the green dot until the entire line turns green.
- 24Just press down on the line and scroll it up or down. This allows us to choose when we receive the alert. We obviously don't want to receive the alert too early because there will be a big gap between the beginning of the limit and the end of the limit.We can now edit the line by moving it up and down.
- 25We want to receive an alert when it's running out of space, not right at the start.It is better to bring it a bit closer, so press down on the line and scroll up to bring it closer to the red line at the top.
- 26Edit this as desired by moving the green line up and down.Now, it is 3 Gigabytes, and the total is 4.7.
- 27It will then allow us to manually enter the exact numerical range or level that we would like to receive an alert.We can also press down on the line one time, and this will bring up a keypad.
- 28The number can be typed in and edited as desired.We can see that currently it is set to 3481.
- 29This will manually allow us to choose the exact number.When satisfied, press "SET".
- 30Alternatively, as mentioned before, we can do this just by pressing down and moving the line up or down.
