Edited by Lukward Thomason, Crystal, Eng
Welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to set up parental controls on applications on a Windows 7 computer.
Steps
1
Open the Control Panel by clicking on the Start menu in the bottom left corner, then click on "Control Panel"
.
2
Click on "User Accounts and Family Safety"
.
3
Click on the "Parental Controls" subsection
.
Once it's loaded, you can set parental controls for the accounts. Bear in mind, parental controls can not be set on the administrator account. For the sake of the tutorial, an account named "kids" has been created.
4
Click on the account that you wish to set the parental controls in
.
5
Once it's loaded, click the radio button to the left of "On, enforce current settings"
.
Three options will show up. "Time Limits", "Games", and "Allow and block specific programs".
6
Click "Allow and block specific programs"
.
7
In this section, there are two options, "kids can use all programs" or "kids can only use the programs I allow
.
8
If "kids can only use the programs I allow" is chosen, wait for it to load the list of applications
.
It may take a little while. Not all games will be listed as games in your computer, some of them will be listed as programs. For example, the first thing on the list is "Besiege.exe", which is actually a game, but the system detects it as a program.
9
Block a program by putting a checkmark in the box to the left of the title
.
Select every program that you do not want your kids to use.
10
If a program is not listed, add the program manually by clicking on "Browse" to the right of "Add a program to the list"
.
11
Find the application folder and double-click the folders until you find the .exe file; select it and click "Open"
.
12
This application is already in the list
.
13
Once the programs are selected, click "OK" and wait for it to load
.
14
Click "OK" if you are happy with the settings
.
Close the Control Panel window.
15
This concludes the tutorial on how to set up parental controls on the applications on a Windows 7 computer
.
