Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to set up a numeric PIN to unlock the screen of an HTC One M8.

To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone

Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.

To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up
.
Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We currently have the lock screen enabled on this phone, but it's insecure as we only need to swipe to enter the phone. We are going to demonstrate how to set up a numeric PIN to unlock the screen. This makes the phone a lot more secure. To do this, we need to find the Settings menu. To do that, we need to swipe the notification panel down.

Press your finger at the top of the screen and swipe downwards

This will open the notification panel.

We want to tap the white cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen

This is our settings icon and it will open up the settings menu. It will say the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen when it is opened.

Scroll down and tap on "Security" in the "PERSONAL" section

It has a padlock icon. This will open up our security menu.

Tap on the first option, "Screen lock"

Underneath "Screen lock", it will say the current setting. In this example, it's "Lock screen". That means it shows the lock screen, but we're going to change that.

Here we have all of the different options related to the lock screen and protecting our HTC One M8

We want the option right at the bottom. It says, "PIN", "Enter a numeric PIN to unlock screen". Press down on it.

Now we must enter the chosen PIN in the text box using the numeric keypad and tap on "CONTINUE" in the gray box

It will ask us to confirm the PIN

Type in the same PIN and tap on "OK".

Now we need to select what notifications the phone shows when the device is locked
.
We can select "Show all notification content", "Hide sensitive notification content", or "Don't show notifications at all". The green circle indicates the option that is currently selected. To change it, just press down on the chosen option and tap on "DONE". This will take us back into the security menu.

Now, we will lock the phone by pressing the power button located at the top of the phone

Then, we will press the power button again to show how this numeric PIN works.

Press down on the power button again to turn the screen on

We will see the lock screen. As usual, swipe upwards on the screen to unlock the phone.
