Steps

In order to set a passcode or password for the iPad Air, you will need to unlock your device

Then tap on the "Settings" icon

It is gear-shaped.

When the "Settings" menu opens, tap on the red fingerprint "Touch ID & Passcode" icon
.
Once you press "Touch ID & Passcode", you will be shown the "Touch ID & Passcode" area on the right side of your screen.

In this case, you simply need to tap "Turn Passcode On"

One tap will turn on the passcode feature. A pop-up window will appear that reads "Set Passcode" at the top.

Now, you need to enter a 6-character passcode

In older iPads, the passcode is 4 characters. For this tutorial, let's type the passcode "123123".

Then, you will be prompted to verify or confirm the passcode by entering it a second time

Now, the passcode is set. If you lock the iPad, you will be prompted to enter your passcode in order to unlock it. Let's check it.

Simply press the lock button at the top of your iPad one time

A single press locks the iPad.

Press the lock button one more time to unlock the iPad

Then, you will need to swipe across the bottom of the screen

Swiping across the bottom will reveal a new screen where you need to enter your passcode.

This will unlock the device.
