You're watching VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to set fingerprints on the iPad Air 2.
Steps
1
If you want to use a fingerprint for your security on your iPad Air 2, you'll need to access the "Settings" menu
.
This is done by locating the "Settings" icon on your unlocked home screen and pressing it once.
2
When the "Settings" panel opens, tap on "Touch ID & Passcode" on the left side
.
The "Touch ID & Passcode" section will be opened on the right side of the screen.
3
In this area, tap on "Add a Fingerprint"
.
A window will pop up indicating that you can use a fingerprint instead of a passcode. Using a fingerprint will allow you to make purchases and do a number of other things, which we will discuss as we proceed through this tutorial.
4
Tap on the window one time
.
A smaller window will appear instructing you to place your finger on the home button in order to enroll your fingerprint. Before you proceed, make sure your fingers are dry and choose which finger you are going to use.
5
When you are ready, tap on "OK" in this window
.
6
For this tutorial, let's use a thumb
.
Place the thumb on the home button and then press down. You will note that some lines appear on the screen, and you will be instructed to "Lift Your Finger".
7
After lifting your finger, you will be instructed to place it on the home button once again. You will notice that even more lines appear in the image.
8
When enrolling a fingerprint, turn your finger and place it again on the home button so that more than one area is recorded
.
When your print has been picked up, you will be informed that it will adjust your grip to capture the edges of your finger.
9
You will then be instructed to lift and rest the edges of the same finger on the home button repeatedly.
10
Lift and rest the edges of the finger repeatedly
.
When the iPad will pick up your complete fingerprint, a message will appear, saying that the process has been completed and that the fingerprint can be used to unlock the iPad.
11
Tap on "Continue" one more time at the bottom of this window
.
12
Enter a passcode to use when Touch ID is not available
.
At times, Touch ID may not function or work properly for some reason. For these cases, you will need to use a passcode. The passcode you select should be six digits. For this tutorial, I will use "123123".
13
Reenter the passcode on the next screen to verify it
.
Now, you can use this fingerprint to unlock the iPad and use Apple Pay when these settings are enabled. You can also choose to set up Touch ID functionality for iTunes & App Store if you have your password handy. Now, let's demonstrate how you can use your fingerprint to unlock your iPad.
14
Tap on the "Home" button to close the "Settings" panel and go back to your home screen
.
15
Then, press the lock button at the top of your iPad
.
Pressing the lock button one time will lock the iPad.
16
Pressing the "Home" button once again will wake up your screen so that you can unlock your iPad
.
17
After pressing the home button one time, press and hold the finger you have scanned in order to unlock your iPad
.
