In another video I demonstrated how to change white balance on a T4i camera, in this video video, I'm going to demonstrate how to set up a custom white balance on the Canon T4i. As I demonstrated in our last video, the tungsten light is at 3200K. It is pretty close to what we need, but I'm using lights in this room, which are at 2700K, as indicated on this box. So if I wanted to get a closer reading, I would need to set up a Custom White Balance and I will demonstrate how to do that now.

First of all, we need to obtain a White Balance Card
.
This is a special card that you can get from your camera store, that is set to a gray that the camera understands. It's a cheap-looking card, but it is expensive. I believe that this one was about 15 to 20 dollars. It's made by "WhiBal." But you can also use a sheet of paper, if you are in a pinch and you can get similar results, but this is what's most recommended.

We're going to place this in front of the camera

We want this to be in the center of the picture. So, it gets the feeling for the lighting in the room. I'll just take one picture with the WhiBal card in the front of the camera.

Now, that I have taken that picture, I can press "MENU."

Then, I go to the second option over and choose "Custom White Balance."

Now, I want to choose the photo that I have just taken and set that as the Custom White Balance

I will press "OK."

Now, I will press MENU once again to get out of the menu options

Then, choose "Custom" now that I have set up the custom white balance
