Set Up Your Windows 7 Computer As Media Server for Your PS3

This is a tutorial for setting up your Windows as a media streaming device for your PS3. There are a lot of ways to enable this feature and we're going to show you the easiest way to do this on Windows 7.
Setting Up Windows 7 as a Media Streaming Device

First you have to open Windows Media Center

Click on Media Libraries

Choose Music and click OK
.
Note that this method works for any other file types so if you want to stream Pictures just choose Pictures and so on.

Now since we're adding directories to the streaming server you have to tick Add Folders To The Library and click next

Tick On This Computer and click next

Next you choose the directory of the media you're going to stream

Now just agree by ticking Yes
.

The Media Center setup part is complete and you can close that window
.
From here on you'll need to set up your streaming options.
Setting Up Streaming Options from Windows

Search for Media Streaming and click on Media Streaming Options under Network And Sharing Center

If you have not turned this feature previously then this window will open and you just have to click Turn On Media Streaming
.
Now a warning will pop up and just go ahead and agree to that.

You want to make sure that you have enabled to show devices on all networks

Now you will see an Unknown device which actually is your PS3
.
All you have to do here is to allow access.

Now the Windows setup part is complete

Setting Up Your PS3 to Play Media from Windows 7

Turn on your PS3 system and go to Settings

Scroll all the way down to the Network Settings

Note that if you already have an internet connection with your local network you can skip to step 8.

Go to Internet Connection Settings.

In most cases you can just choose the easy setup here.

The PS3 will try to find the easiest way possible to setup your connection

Just wait for it.

Now choose your type of connection and follow the onscreen instructions.

Since the internet connection is established you have to enable the Media Server Connection option.

Now go to the desired media
.
In our case we used Music. Choose Search For Media Servers.

This is going to take a little while so be patient.

The screen will show you that a media server has been found

Now you will see your Streaming Device here

Press X.

Next you can choose what media to play.

This step is all up to you

You'll see all the music files that you're streaming from your Windows.

You're done. Congratulations. You've now set up our PS3 as a Media Server.
Tips and Suggestions for Setting up your PS3 Media Server
- For faster connections it is better to use a wired connection.
- Avoid using long names for files. They might not be read on PS3
