Edited by Lukward Thomason, Amanda, Eng
Hi, you're watching VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to set up a virtual hotspot on Windows 8 computers.
Steps
1
Move the mouse cursor to the lower-left corner of the screen and right-click there
.
2
In the menu that pops up, click "Command Prompt (Admin)"
.
3
Type in "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="
.
4
Now type in the name for the hotspot
.
In our example, we want it to be "VisiHow". The whole line in our case currently reads, "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=VisiHow".
5
In our demonstration, the whole line reads, "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=VisiHow key=".
6
Note that the password length must be a minimum of 8 characters, and maximum 64 characters. For the sake of simplicity and this tutorial, we are going to type in numbers 1 through 8. Now the line reads, "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=VisiHow key=12345678".
7
Proofread the line and hit the enter key to submit
.
Our virtual hotspot has been created.
8
Close the window by clicking the "X" in the top right corner
.
9
This concludes our tutorial on how to set up a hotspot on Windows 8 computers
.
