Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to set limits for deleting old messages on the HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the 'Power' button located at the top of the phone
.
This will bring up the lock screen.
2
Swipe up to unlock the phone
.
This will bring us to the home screen.
3
Now we need to tap on the 'Messages' icon
.
In this example, it's at the bottom of the screen. It is a white chat box with 3 green horizontal lines in the middle. This will open up the messages.
4
Now we find the message settings
.
To do that, press the 3 white vertical dots in the top right corner.
5
In the menu, find 'Settings' near the bottom
.
This will open up our settings options.
6
Tap on 'General' at the bottom to open up the general settings
.
7
We need to scroll down until we see 'STORAGE SETTINGS' in bold black text
.
Underneath of that, the first option is 'Delete old messages. Delete old messages as limits are reached'. I'm sure we've all been through the process of having to delete all of our messages if we haven't done it for a few months. Using this option, it allows us to set a limit of when the SMS or MMS messages will start to be deleted.
8
Tap on the box to the right of 'Delete old messages'
.
This will put a blue tick in it, and the options below will become available.
9
Tap on the 'Text message limit' text to change the limit
.
The limit for text messages is currently set to 200 messages per conversation. Therefore, after 200 messages, the oldest messages will start to be deleted. Every time we receive or send a message, it will delete an old message.
10
Set the number of messages to save by typing it into the textbox with the keypad
.
It can be between 10 and 5000.
11
We can tap on 'OK' when we are satisfied
.
12
Tap on the 'Multimedia message limit' text to change the limit
.
The limit of multimedia messages is currently set to 20 messages per conversation.
13
Set the number of messages to save by typing it into the textbox with the keypad
.
It can be between 10 and 999. This is because multimedia messages take up more space.
14
We can tap on 'OK' when we are satisfied
.
15
If you just want to delete messages manually, turn this option off by tapping on the tick in the box to the right of 'Delete old messages'
.
16
This concludes the tutorial on how to set limits as to when your messages will be deleted on the HTC One M8
.
