Edited by Thor, Claudia, Eng, Crystal
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to set filters for applications in the Parental Control section of the Google Play Store on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on the top of the phone
.
2
Once the phone has been activated, we will see the lock screen
.
3
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen upwards
.
4
Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see these icons here
.
It's one of these icons that we now need, as we need to open up the Applications folder.
5
To do that, we need this icon located in the center at the bottom of the home screen
.
We can see that there is an icon and it's a grid of white dots. This is the icon for the Applications folder.
6
Press down on it and it'll open up the Applications folder
.
7
We now need to find the Play Store application
.
In this example, it is located here, near the center. We can see that there is an icon of a white shopping bag. In the middle, there is a colorful shape. Underneath, there are the words "Play Store".
8
Press down on this icon and it'll open up the Google Play Store application
.
9
We now need to find the Settings menu
.
To do this, we need this icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen. We can see here that there are 3 white horizontal lines.
10
Press down on this icon and it'll open up this menu
.
11
We now need this option located here, close to the bottom
.
It says the word "Settings".
12
Press down on the word "Settings" and we can see here that the Settings menu has now appeared
.
13
Let's scroll down now until we find this option here in "User controls"
.
We could see it says "User controls" in turquoise. Underneath, it has the option "Parental controls".
14
Press down on this option
.
15
Now, first of all, we need to make sure that this Parental controls option is turned on
.
We need to make sure it says the word "On" on the left side and that this icon is a turquoise color.
16
If it's not, and it's gray and says "Off", just press down on this circle icon until it is turquoise and on
.
17
Now we want this options here, which says "Set filters for each content type
.
Content rated higher than your preferences can't be downloaded or purchased on this device".
18
Press down on the option where it says "Apps & Games"
.
19
We can see it here we're going to have to enter a PIN number, and this is the PIN number that we'll have to add when we're turning this Parental controls option on or off
.
20
Enter that PIN number now, and then press the word "OK" located here
.
21
Now we can see we have these rating options
.
We can set a rate to only "Rated for 3+", "Rated for 7+", "Rated for 12+", "Rated 16+" and "Rated for 18+", or "Show all, including unrated". If we have young children using this we haven't set up kid mode, or we're worried about the content that they can access, then we can set one of these ratings.
22
If we have a child aged 12 or under, we can press down on this option here where it says "Rated for 12+"
.
23
Now we can see it says "Filters for apps & games affect the Google Play Store only." "Apps & games already installed will still be visible on your device."
24
Then press "OK" when we're satisfied
.
25
Now we can see this option has changed
.
It says "Show up to Rated for 12+".
26
If we press down on this option again, we can change the option
.
We can actually have no Parental controls at all.
27
Just press "Show all, including unrated" and we can select that option if we like
.
28
This then concludes our tutorial on how to set filters for application in the Parental controls section of the Google Play Store on an HTC One M8
.
