Edited by Thor, Rushell, Jen M
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to set a background for the chat screen in the WhatsApp messaging application when using a Microsoft Lumia 535.
Steps
1
To get started, press the power button located on the right-hand side of the phone
.
2
Once activated, you'll see the lock screen
.
Swipe up from the bottom to reveal the Home screen.
3
We need to find the WhatsApp tile
.
Mine is located at the bottom. As you can see, it is a blue tile with a symbol of a phone inside a speech bubble.
4
If you do not have the WhatsApp tile pinned to your Home screen, you can swipe from right to left to open the App menu
.
From there, you can scroll down and find WhatsApp.
5
Wherever you have it, tap to open it
.
6
We now need to press the ellipsis, which is the three dots in a line at the bottom right corner of your screen
.
7
This will bring up another menu
.
At the bottom of that menu, tap on settings.
8
Next, we need to go to chat settings, so tap on that
.
9
Under chat settings, tap on default background
.
10
We have several options for setting our background
.
The message at the top says, "You can set a default background for your chats." We can look in the background gallery. We can take a photo. We can choose from albums, or we can search the web for an image.
11
Tapping on background gallery will bring up a number of options from which to choose
.
These are backgrounds that are already built into the WhatsApp application.
12
Press one of the images to select it
.
13
The background image you chose will appear on your screen along with two messages
.
The first one says, "Swipe right to change background," and below that, "Swipe left to change background." Therefore, swipe to the left or right to scroll through the backgrounds and see them as they will appear on the screen.
14
Once you find a background you like, press the check mark directly under the background at the bottom of the screen
.
Now, we have set the default background for our chats.
15
If we press the option to take a photo, it will bring up the camera and allow us to take a photo
.
We can also choose a photo we have already taken from our albums.
16
Tap on choose from albums, and this will take us into the phone and allow us to choose one of our own photos
.
17
Alternatively, we can search the web
.
If we press that, it will bring up a search box. Let's search for sunset, so type in that.
18
Now press the right-facing arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen
.
This will bring up a collection of images related to our search term.
19
It brought up some very beautiful sunsets, so let's choose one we like
.
Press on an image to choose it.
20
Now, the image becomes our background
.
21
We can drag the image around on the screen to move it
.
22
We can also pinch the screen with our thumb and forefinger to zoom in or out on the image
.
Move your fingers out to zoom in, and pinch them together to zoom out.
23
When you are happy with how the background looks, tap the check mark at the bottom
.
24
We also have the option to remove images by pressing remove
.
25
Tap on the left arrow at the bottom left of the screen to go back
.
Continue pressing this left arrow until you get to the chats screen.
26
Tap on a chat to enter it
.
27
Now, you can see that our chat has the background we just set
.
This will be our default background, and it will be featured in all of our chats.
28
This concludes our tutorial on how to set a background for the chat screens in the WhatsApp messaging application when using a Microsoft Lumia 535
