Edited by Thor, Crystal, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to set a custom background image in the messages section of the HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the 'Power' button located at the top of the phone
.
This will bring up the lock screen.
2
Swipe up to unlock the phone
.
This will bring us to the home screen.
3
Now we need to tap on the 'Messages' icon
.
In this example, it's at the bottom of the screen. It is a white chat box with 3 green horizontal lines in the middle. This will open up the messages.
4
Now we find the message settings
.
To do that, press the 3 white vertical dots in the top right corner.
5
In the menu, find 'Settings' near the bottom
.
This will open up our settings options.
6
Tap on 'General' at the bottom to open up the general settings
.
7
Scroll all the way down to the bottom and tap on 'Background' in the 'PERSONALIZE' section
.
This will allow us to select a photo from our photo albums for a custom background.
8
We can view the photos a different way by tapping on the 4 icons in the top bar
.
The one that is selected will be highlighted in green. For example, the icon on the far right shows us our photos by month. Use these different views to find the photo you would like to set as the background.
9
We can also look in different areas but tapping on the text at the top
.
10
Tap on the location that the preferred photo is in
.
There's 'Timeline', 'Albums', 'Tags', 'Locations', and 'Downloads & screenshots'. Tap anywhere else to close it without selecting a different location.
11
Press down on the chosen image and it will allow us to crop it
.
Press down on a corner and move it to make it bigger or smaller. Tap on 'DONE' or 'CANCEL' at the bottom. We will press 'DONE' to save our changes.
12
The phone will then show a preview of the new background
.
Tap on the white arrow in the top left corner, or the 'BACK' button at the bottom to go back.
13
Tap on 'SET' to apply this background
.
In this example, the background does make it difficult to see the text because it is almost the same color, but we will set it anyway.
14
The phone will return to the 'Settings' page where we can press the white back arrow in the bottom left corner until we return to the messages
.
15
Select any message to see the preview
.
The background image has been changed.
16
This concludes the tutorial on how to set a custom background image in the 'Messages' section of the HTC One M8
.
