Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to set up a password to unlock the screen of an HTC One M8.

    To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone
    .
    Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.

    To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up
    .
    Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We currently have the lock screen enabled on this phone, but it's insecure as we only need to swipe to enter the phone. We are going to demonstrate how to set up a password to unlock the screen. This makes the phone a lot more secure. To do this, we need to find the Settings menu. To do that, we need to swipe the notification panel down.

    Press your finger at the top of the screen and swipe downwards

    This will open the notification panel.

    We want to tap the white cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen

    This is our settings icon and it will open up the settings menu. It will say the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen when it is opened.

    Scroll down and tap on "Security" in the "PERSONAL" section

    It has a padlock icon. This will open up our security menu.

    Tap on the first option, "Screen lock"
    .
    Underneath "Screen lock", it will say the current setting. In this example, it's "Lock screen". That means it shows the lock screen, but it's very easy to enter.

    Here we have all of the different options related to the lock screen and protecting our HTC One M8

    We want the option right at the bottom. It says, "Password", "Enter a password to unlock screen". Press down on it.

    Now we must enter the chosen password in the text box and tap on "CONTINUE" in the gray box

    Now we need to select what notifications the phone shows when the device is locked

    We can select "Show all notification content", "Hide sensitive notification content", or "Don't show notifications at all". The green circle indicates the option that is currently selected. To change it, just press down on the chosen option and tap on "DONE". This will take us back into the security menu.

    Now, we will lock the phone by pressing the power button located at the top of the phone
