Edited by Thor, Crystal, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to save and view Google maps offline on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone
.
Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.
2
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up
.
Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We now need to open the application folder.
3
We can do that by tapping the icon in the middle, at the bottom of the screen
.
There is a grid of white dots. This is the icon for the applications folder.
4
Now that the folder has been opened, we need to find and tap on the Maps application
.
It has a map icon with a red pin and says "Maps" underneath. This will open the Maps application. We want to demonstrate how to save Google maps to use offline when we don't have the internet. We also want to demonstrate how to view them.
5
First we need to find the location that we want to save a map of
.
We can do that by pressing down on the search bar at the top of the screen. It currently says "Google" inside of it.
6
We now have the option to type in a location or we can tap on a recently searched location
.
We are going to tap on "Paris". Use whichever location you want.
7
Now we are in the center of Paris, the city of love, and now we're going to save this map
.
8
To do that, we need to press down and swipe up on the white bar at the bottom that says the location
.
This will show the information about the current location.
9
We need to tap on the 3 small white circles in a vertical line, in the top right-hand corner
.
This will open a menu.
10
Tap on "Save offline map"
.
11
At the top of this page it says, "Save this map
?
Pan and zoom to adjust". We can zoom in and out, which is very useful if we're using a map to walk around a city. We're going to need to zoom in quite a lot because we need to see the details of the locations and streets. If we're just driving from one city to another, we don't need much detail, we just need to see the big roads. To zoom in, we just pinch out to zoom in and pinch in to zoom out.
12
Press down on "SAVE" in the bottom right-hand corner
.
13
We now have the option to name this map
.
The default name will be the current location. We're going to use that. Press down on "SAVE" when done.
14
Now it says "Map saved in "Your places"
.
15
If we want to find this map, we swipe from the left side of the screen to the right side
.
That will bring up the side panel.
16
Tap on "Your places" at the top
.
17
Now we can see our offline maps
.
We currently have two offline maps and one is Paris. It expires in 30 days, so we can't keep it forever. We should save this map right before it's needed so that it doesn't expire.
18
To view the map, press down on it
.
We can still navigate it and zoom in and out.
19
This concludes the tutorial on how to save and view Google maps offline on an HTC One M8
.
